A significant search effort is underway once again on Tuesday for a missing 20-year-old college student in Franklin.

A State Police search and rescue team, divers and K-9 units are all looking for Michael Doherty, according to the Massachusetts State Police. The Duke University student has been missing since early Sunday, when he didn't come home after attending a gathering with friends on Phyllis Lane.

On Monday, local police and other law enforcement groups searched a number of swamps near where Doherty had attended that gathering. A shirt and sneakers belonging to Doherty was recovered, according to Franklin Police Deputy Chief James Mill.

About 30 friends who attended the party where Doherty was last seen have been interviewed, Mill said as police try to figure out the timeline of his last known whereabouts. As of early Tuesday afternoon, no further clues have been found during the day's search.

Mill says the parents are devastated. "I can't even imagine what they're going through," he said.
