Funeral services are taking place Friday for the two doctors killed in their South Boston apartment last week.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston says the funeral mass for Drs. Richard Field and Lina Bolanos is happening Friday morning at Gate of Heaven Church in South Boston.

The 39-year-old Bolanos and 50-year-old Field were found slain in their condo at 141 Dorchester Avenue last Friday night. 30-year-old Bampumum Teixeira, of Chelsea, has been charged with the crime. He was shot by police as they encountered the scene. Prosecutors say a backpack filled with jewelry was found nearby.

Field helped create North Shore Pain Management in Beverly, where he worked as an anesthesiologist. Bolanos was a pediatric anesthesiologist at Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary.

"Their passing is a tragedy beyond measure," said a statement from relatives of the victims earlier this week. "Our lives will forever be changed. However, we want to remember Richard and Lina for who they were, not how they died."
