Without being said Matt Keith Keith what's going on any any news everything on long. Recently found over the more his pregnant slots. Go where I find out now on the radio gonna hold my goodness. None now that's so my three potentially 456. Eyes on the way or any Nicky says that twins the Stanley. Phone oh my goodness my grandmother is also my grandmother is one of 1470. She was a twin home Matt Harris is seeking resolution in the hallway out of Chicago and thinking I'd I knew this I can tidy Keith the only break alive in the air already LA's at that I'll solve man and well is so cool yeah same Matt. We have any tips very Matt has four kids I have to keep this too so he's a mound tonight in between hopefully you don't want to know I had nothing yet another step to the stairs is 234. Assuming that need to do one side not not that twins Hampshire beautiful thing but he's I hate it's usually easier coming won the time Joanna my associate vice. Oh man did you get your game up as financially you know you did get the minivan ready to all right yeah see if you can accept the fact that you're when I had a meal rank much more happy meal you're at that stage in your life and then you get a minivan driver for ten years in many of the solid mid life crisis surround it and get there as perfectly all right that sounds good some doubts ejected atop that was going over the I I I cleaned out my basement price. What's the most. A breaking yes I upgraded to very happy but to the so basically how we want to I think Oscar mechanical that home mad at Natalie had no clue I'd sure but we're not trying to. Throw that out there as a joke really no clue. So one against it today subject an honest more serious note we've seen the you know devastating if that's pretty serious and sorry. With good devastating effects of hurricane Harvey. In Reno we know a lot of folks have heard a lot about this she was actually on the news a couple of times on channel seven I believe being interviewed. Waring and you wanna donate you wanna help solve. But number one you wanna ever wants to help don't help those poor people out of their taxes and who at the same time you I hate to see this this is a Dini injury and you have to make sure you're not being taken advantage of from the companies that key failures that people working with a trying to get money you. What I said is. Tragedies like this promote unfortunately or fortunately the best and unfortunately the worst in people on this people out there that wanna take this opportunity to capitalize in a negative way. On this tragedy so when I was saying is make sure you do your research before you go and Iran everyone's so quick to wanna. Reach out and Tony which I completely agree with I think it's very important and you know it's it's the way. You know humankind reacts and it's it's with compassion. But definitely make sure that you're giving to an organization that you've done the research on the net you know to make sure that if you doing it through web site with her FaceBook link which I wouldn't advise. Make sure that their website is legitimately the web sake as there's people out there there will merely say for instance you know I don't wanna particularly the Red Cross there's a website to come looking exactly like the Red Cross is website and you think you're giving to the Red Cross but it's going somewhere else. In the final thing that I you know would recommend also is. Give money would like a check or credit card don't get actual cash yet because it and then you than you can track it. One to you know it's to make sure wasn't a fraud but also to you all set now receipt of that accident you can you can take the tax deduction. Next here in your returns the answer intends to. The time on that words like he he's really don't want and don't win over the phone. You know level on telemarketing and LB happening which it gets I get them all the time from other organizations and I like I would love to give to that organization. But I can I I won't do it over the okay insert into linger in sometimes us on it because it's an illegitimate charities is because the telemarketer would beginning a chunk of that donation surrounding going off the Red Cross the united nor the united way. X amount is going to XYZ telemarketing company. Is well so that's one thing over the phone and then. Certainly he'd you know you don't wanna be pressured immediately you know I go Keith Derek you have to you know give now and give now and do now and and that type of only will you come and pick up your jackets again wait a minute red flag race right yes so. Mean we did we put a lot of this information just for the accused is on the news he put it on Leno for their for the viewers' sake and it's still there on a website now to go to SHP financial dot com. If you wanna join us in the fight to help them in and to basically help Texas recover they have a lot of issues going on as we know. To help those families to go to our website. We we have some really good research on there to kind pick and choose the right charity. To donate to so we don't wanna do the show without least mentioning something about obviously the good cause of where passionate about helping people out. But we also we all one we're helping people who wanna make sure it's helping people not. Crux well that 1000 seats who just can't talk about these sort of event driven. Happenings is that. I'm unsure if it's good it didn't people of the bad people. But certainly you know the financial. Media and over the past week he really has been digging into. Whether it's good dies you know for example he knows some of the auto industry and in the fact that they're gonna have all as new inventory. I mean talk about all of those cars now that are basically going to be completely you know saturated. And so there are some some of the auto stocks perked up a little bit. But there's also lot of concern to both the insurance they said okay you know will the travelers of the world are all Stater some of the property casualty and thankfully when they did a lot of stress tests to these insurance companies they found they were a very well capitalized. Indeed you which is maybe not good news for you. Is that. Because it was a flood and a lot of it's gonna fall under that the federal government's flood insurance program so. If you are paying the flood insurance. Whether urine in Massachusetts or whether you're in Florida. You may see some type of notice is going on about that as well so it's good for the insurance companies in the private and if things but it might not be so good if you are paying into the flood program. Yeah as we get going this show folks who want to provide a lot of value as it pertains to your situation and we're gonna get into things like a state taxes with the turning me minutes. We're gonna get into ways that we can do you know most firms just do incoming investment planning and that's all they do. In so. If you if you really want a holistic plan your plan needs to consider a lot more than that so we're gonna get into other areas of retirement that should be considered. Or visit them online at SHP financial does come now here's your hosts a Jerry gray. She's jealous so our entire road map guys you know has five key areas that we wanna cover so we go the plan for folks were not born needs every single area of our roadmap there's five areas that we think are the most important that you should have. Almost as individual plans stem make up an overall plan once should be an income plan. Secondly an investment plan third attacks planned fourth health care plan in fifth a legacy plan. In this segment we're joined us we are each and every week by keeping ministry man's estate planning firm Maria talk of Mo if you procrastinate in the estate planning world a lot of times at least so what's called. All I once inheritance to the next generation and Keith Powell kind of NT she say hello but what's the danger and that in terms of leaving all want. Parents yes thanks Eric for us for inviting you went against a pleasure to be here so as an estate planning attorney I see this situation play itself out. There's psychological aspects of the state planning. As you correctly point out procrastinate you as the number one that can be tremendous obstacle to planners. This is a tough period attitude to be mature down and think about an end and tackle what you have to tackle it now you don't want to procrastinate. Com in the world to the state planning among attorneys I would say that procrastinate should as one of the most difficult topics simply for the fact that I lose options. The more time goes by so premed as as a client gets older and as more things that can happen. Whereas he may not be able to do things they could have done had they done and when they were in good Health Net the right time to act absolutely absolutely so for instance when you have. Tool I'm a come married couple you're gonna have more planning options and you well as a widow or would lower. In many people think they can predict when that's going to happen in many times there wrought and we lose that ability in and you have to try and teen court permission. Through probate court to try and do any planning at all and even then it's it's rife with problems some. Generally speaking the best results we can get for people I won their alive well and if it's a couple while they're legally married and can both attend in now keeps. Along those same lines what what are certain questions that people should consider. DOC mention about a lump sum so that they should should they be putting all these are stipulations on it so we dose of their grandson her children can't touch it until 25 visit. Is it that type of considerations are or wish they start so a great starting point of course when you decided that you want that say children in your example to be the beneficiaries. Is you determine. Do you want them to receive this all at once. Forty want to receive this over a period of time all at once planning does not always result in the best outcome for example. Where is retirement based accounts as you know. Taking it all out in one big lump sum is not gonna have the same effect is doing stretch. IRA plan and Barrett there could idea. 300000 on mistakes you know his breath about asked some procrastinating you have a million bucks term Carolina primary you leave him behind would know there's no instruction no road map as we call. In the next generation of there's no proper legacy plan. The next generation might not know their options in the mine know the plan he put in place for that account. They take their mind dollar zip let's cash and then and then at the end of the year they say what's this. Was this tax both of 400000 dollars or fifty I don't know where are you spent that honey it's amazing do Darius I like the number one eight upright each person is that comes as a prize all right tell them about stretch IRAs and I heard it IRAs d'isere really that's so works and educate families who educate their families moon when we educate families who've been keys as well educate their families. The help they gives and so much more power to be able to make their decisions and again that one example we've seen it before map. The crest and issue right there can cost you three to 400000 are more if you have more money in your IRAs and. And let's build upon that to Derek and that so. Let's say if you take it one more what if the children aren't don't have everything that's clear sailing at the time when if there's a divorce going on he would've there's a lawsuit. Would if there's a bankruptcy creditor claim what is the children became special needs so what is everyone's alive and well now. And if they're not alive and well when the estate plan actually unfolds. What other cities and we probably judiciary your reelect examples clients and that's not really the best with it. Does John Deere classic with the names on the radio acumen he reelected him was you pinch share maybe people are more familiar with. Yet are so. One that comes to mind was resistant not a client of mine obviously but let's take it an extreme example of bad planning let's look at the estate of James Gandolfini. Tony Tony Soprano OK everyone knows that does sadly he passed away. Very well known a public figure containment figure. Did you know that his estate was approximately. Seventy million dollars he swap now is not enough did you know as indeed he passed away with a little. That's all I had completely. Under plan he did have were contrast for one child apparently but the very vast majority of his assets were passing by way of the will. And that I am shocked that he would have such a woefully inadequate plan he paid nearly. This date paid nearly seven have paid nearly thirty million dollars just in the federal estate taxes Milan. A thirty million of his work for of his life's work. Dawn now obviously is is an extreme example but at the same point you can imagine what could possibly be going through someone's mind. When they even had a fraction of that in didn't do the proper kind of planning went but we've trusts not wills. It's not only keep the procrastinate never it's also it's not the federal tax on the state tax bill. It's all the attorneys bills as yesterday's pro V yeah you can imagine how much that cost is you know. Paying for probate attorneys is something that is he's very valuable. If it's needed but again it is something that through proper planning based around Warner Mort trusts even a modest to state a regular smallest state for every you know every day folks. Can benefit from trusts and if it is done right. You can save that family hourly fees they go one month after month that are otherwise going to the states settlement or probate fees to attorneys. And and then within that trusty via people can put those stipulations there but Howell not to inherit the funds lump sum or so all right so how does that work it work so that once. You decide that it might not make sense to take all of the assets and dump them on the children are beneficiaries all once there's other benefits to you can stretch it out over a period of years. You can have it go 10% over ten years or you can have an fractionally or you can never over a longer period of time. I am but the reality is it's completely up to the client as to how. They're beneficiaries receive the assets. Under what terms they receive them. But what I like to do is encourage the clients along by saying did you know that we can also provide tremendous tax benefits that we can provide probate avoidance. That we can protect all of the wealth. Against certain things that sometimes unfold in life. In giving them the details are can becomes a very exciting prospect of being able to move wealth through several generations. But procrastinators and people would put it off they just you know don't call it don't sit down less. We're not gonna really do all this yacht for not not it's not on the drop of the dime and does take a couple of meetings and and some thought. Folks out there with a twist keep some little bit and were able to as part of our tyrant road map process is this legacy piece. And we were able to for the next five callers only. Keith is nice not during his busy schedule to set five appointments aside for the next five listeners who caught just one estate planning review there's no charge no obligation. His comment his office either is in Plymouth. Or Hyannis just tick of the phone now car office 800. Two Q 77777. Again a 102277777. And again he'd be happy to want to due process to see you know don't progressed me see what there is to offer. And then you can make an educated decision when we get back we're gonna continue this discussion of a state planning he show you some examples of why you should be strongly considering. Having an estate tax analysis done on your situation it could be the difference of hundreds of thousands of dollars either spent or saved America. You're listening to us HP financial retirement road map show. Your guide to a successful retirement the phone lines are always open at 1802277777. Stick around the guys will be right. Back my dad planned ahead so his assets were transferred after he passed just the way he wanted to I gave power returning to my daughter. In now I know that someone I trust will be making decisions when I can't. The play and we created ensured that her family would avoid having to go to probate court to get their inheritance we set up the trusts opponents and be protected if he got divorced. Careful est. Call BS HP team anytime at 1802277777. Or visit them online at SHB financial Don come now here's your host Gerri great. Jealous and SHB financial we all know that our retirement road map is really built upon five key areas that we think are necessary. To have the retirement that you dreamed of that you deserve for all the hard work that you put in. This what our passion is Benson's restarted in 2003. We just finished our fourteenth year since we started the company myself keep the math. In thinks to listeners and callers in the in the folks have worked with a strong out all that time we appreciate their trust and you know hopefully we've done them as you've done the best job we possibly can for them. In I think the best way arrested earlier in the show all are related to the patriots because we all of the patriots are most people listening probably though the patriots I'm not sure. As much as we do but think of like. When you go to your advisor in this is a common theme we see as someone that came to our office just last week. They had a bunch of course a bunch of statements. He would he would run a construction company for many years and she was a legal assistant in the it's a Derek you know we're we're getting good returns were getting you know we like or advisor. But it's all we're looking every year is hey we have the stock this bond this mutual fund this annuity and we sit down here's a much of me here's a much of lost everything okay yep see you next year. I make that I that I really to that being imagine Bill Belichick and the patriots showing up to a Super Bowl. In they go to the Super Bowl. In all of a sudden you say you know what the whole day today we're just gonna practice passing. We're just gonna throw the football and the defense is wondering why are we practicing defense Larry practicing special teams. He says no we're just gonna keep passing the football daylong now we know that's an important part of football. But that's not everything just like income planning an investment planning are an important part of retirement. But it's not everything. So we take it one step further just like Belichick and the patriots and all teams they wanna have a proper game plan so they were on offense defense special teams kicking everything. And essays. And you have enough income coming in the rescue life. But on top of that. I'm sure those listening don't wanna just stop there if you do then stay where you aren't that's that's great but if you want real advice holistic advice. Come to affirm that looks set income and investments but then takes a step further. And we say for every client that we take on how to we see if taxes both now in for the next generation that's one area. How do we maximize what's left to the next generation assuming that you're taking care of during your lifetime and how to we prepare for health care costs we know health care is a huge part of retirement both Medicare. Medicare supplement called co pays we may have to build an extra income to cover health care. And look at long term care options to protect your money there. So that entire areas are retired roadmap process. And again it's not just income and investments there's a lot more to it that you deserve if you're planning for retirement so. Sorry go on this launch BO have I think it's important few realize that. In were making it a lot easier feud get to know us we've done this in the past we took some time off this year but we're getting back into gonna have a few more. Live events for you can come meet us in get your questions answered. As it relates to your retirement so whatever it is you're concerned about income investments how to reduce taxes have increased income and keep up with the inflation. Pass some what's left here at your heirs. So wanna give your website to keep in mind because for them to sign up for these events this all you have to do is go to SHP. Workshop sets plural. SHP workshops dot com. In we have one coming up very soon. Tuesday September 12 in Buzzards Bay at mezzaluna. In dinner is included all these events you have to be pre qualified and meet certain requirements which we knew when you sign up for the other website you'll find out what that is. Also Thursday September 21. We're having a live event at the big club Matta poise it and then Tuesday October 17. As well as Thursday October 19. Straight up crime in Woburn we have offices right about straighter prime. CQ meat just right in did generally held right below our offices so again Tuesday September 12 in Buzzards Bay. Thursday September 21 in Matta poison. And then October 17 in nineteenth at strait of crime in Woburn get your seat held for the events go to SHP workshops dot com while there's space available. Tuesday might be getting pretty full this point for the September 12 one. But again it's gonna SHP workshops dot com twos is packed Tuesday's packed. But they think they're thinking get a few more seats and probably at this point matzo in in terms of a state tax. We know that's one we sit our clients when shoes agree. That a lot of folks don't know. That serious amount of money knew that they might all for the next generation my oh with a state taxes and let me tell you this are you listening. We can plan around this. Well distinguish this way you know and it's it's been certainly recent news to where president trumpets talking about repealing the estate tax and things along those lines. And so people think they're okay less of federal a federal Lehigh and pain in my repeal its army to worry about it. But what what's most folks are aware of is that there's a state. A state tax or state death tax in in Massachusetts it's only one million dollar goes to limit is one million dollars per person. Or two million dollars if you have good planning and in good and via married in spouses. So that we we have returning man's son all in all the time to kind of explain about the basic estate plan that you need to you. To capture that two million dollar exemption. But for a lot of people and it's not doesn't take a lot to exceed that amount. When you consider the fact that properties included life insurance is included. All of your assets checking savings and into the business interest to setter up. And so what what we do is part of our processes that were always and we we use a term crunching numbers and easily tax and house for a executives are okay and on the let me crunch some numbers -- some data crunching numbers when it comes -- income plans are -- okay what's coming in what's going back out but everything that we can calculate for folks is what their estate -- Massachusetts state tax exposure now let me preface this by saying is a great problem to have but -- -- -- had a client higher net -- client and about four million dollars right now. And we gave him a in a current estate tax masters estate tax to say look. If you don't take extra steps within turning get a begin a more. Sort of more thorough a state plan you have a 185000. Dollar the state Massachusetts estate tax and is due upon death. So 185000. Dollars right now yes today yesterday and there in the sixties. Right and Sosa it's a we we took a look at their income to look at the cash flow to the look at some projected returns. And we know that okay in five years. It's going to be 248000. Dollars that dole out to be subject died two and then ten years it's 337000. Dollars. That they will have to be subject to when it comes to the Massachusetts state tax so I just point that out because it is just it's a significant problem that if you are talking about it you need to be. And that's serious issue financial madam Marie talked to you bought that client may they say yeah they have a good advisor he's been working with them helping him to be making money but they have no. You can mean the best advisor in the world if you costing your it's clients 200000 or if you're not it's his inability for you listening right now deceive. 30400000. Dollars and estate taxes that can be cured. Are part of it cured with proper planning. Each and every week we want to provide you with the current content as it pertains to the market. And as part of our weekly mark report we always have our resident certified financial planner CFP. I map pack keep the nice part are obviously for fourteen years now. Among active mentioned act they can't believe it's been that now long time flies and employ in September of 2003. I mean you look at respect and I think it's kind of funny because. A lot of things attic. And no I'm not getting in the attic somewhere surrounded by filing cabinet I can see now you can see me. It was just say freezing most one out of nowhere 2324. Year old. So that's it's not any and that trust and is a lot of good advises that I meet that have been in the business for a long time. But a lot of our clients to Ethan you've heard this as well they they appreciate the fact. That although. We've although where young you know where an hour to keep his old he's forty but that being different and today over the Lauren Metz 39 I'm almost a B 38 a couple weeks. The without being said you know we have the experience through have been doing this we started even before them east but we started and it's in 2003 this particular company. So fourteen years since you started the company in even longer previous to that. But we plan on being here for the long. Both funny because a lot of people come into the office has no say that they've met with Kris advisors are had been working with previous advisors. And one of the things that kind of turn them off. To working now with that advisor. Is affected they're probably gonna retire he alongside them or before them. So they want it younger people to attempt to grow with seem with the attorney nick man she's younger gentleman to say wanted to turn this kinda. They younger as well also and as they progress in to their older ages they're younger advisors kind of working that but but. Younger but experienced advisors working on their behalf if that's you know. God only knows how long we have on this earth but you know with three of us in our age range god willing will be here in the next 2030 years to take out. To take on our our clients and help them see their retirement dreams for you know for the future so I'm as the game that just popped in my head and a Keats as well we talked about locked in fourteen years and to start this company and you know we obviously we owe a lot the listeners and your clients have supported us. And so Matt best. As its shift subjects yes Syria on September. We're in September and we we've known that's been known in the past in the market as kind of a potential pitfall month. Mariah Mena I think it's funny October generally gets more depressed because of black Monday 1987. And that's when the you know that they're Great Recession really began her says some of the some of the real massive. Selling their selloffs happen in October. But truly September is the more scary month free looking historically. You know for example over the past 100 years has actually been an average of one point 1% loss in the month of September and when it comes the Dow. Is well as the fact it's only positive 40% of the time. So more often than not more years than not September ends up being a negative side negative month. Now to talk a little bit more and in the micro or more kind of what's happening today. There are three main areas of concern currently in we saw some selling happen on Monday this past week. And that is some one is that is board tensions with North Korea. Secondly is the debt ceiling and third is the government shut down or potential government shut down. Now there's other minor ones such as a Federal Reserve in on C anytime monetary policies involve the markets will move. But really these three that have a lot of focus on in May be a cause of volatility. So I missed or were North Korea. I mean that could be by far the most terrifying both for reassert humanity how as well as for all all of these people are living in South Korea or and or an East Asia I mean to have sort of what appears to be madman with. You know Scott constantly sending off missiles and as Nikki Haley managed to have proof he switches do that that capacity which is that you said it's pretty frightening yet in the living Nikki Haley no harm UN ambassador BC said the you know North Korea's coming begging for war in Canada feels that way. Now on a very have done in on a very evil or at least very cold hearted view of things. You know the North Korea situation you know they would BC be assured destruction of them. And if incident were to happen notes it to South Korea with its. Must issue a geopolitical events don't necessarily unraveled the US economy now what's happening workflow locally one is a very concerning is the debt ceiling near as of right now September 29 is the last time that the United States are going to be able to fulfill their obligations. With our enact from congress. Now the last time that that we can ahead brinksmanship. Which is couple years back. The S&P dropped in a close to 10% so when you blend the Standard and Poor's actually downgraded our our are raiding you know he used to be AAA and I'm down in double A which means a lot in the bond rating in regards the full faith and credit the what the United States does. So we have the potential for a debt ceiling issue. Then we also have a government shut down is that NATO prior to Harvey you know or bring Harvey back into the snow moment. But prior to Harvey. President trumpet potentially talked about linking the border wall funding with no government shut down. And even so far and event to say you may be government shut down the good thing. Now a action economically speaking in government shut down is not a very good thing. And law and along the same lines wit and yet a third of that will cause volatility. So here you have this major geopolitical event that's happening plus two sort of political. Brinksmanship that's happening with the debt ceiling is Wellesley government shut down. Now back to original segment and a beautiful one of the of the better nature's are angels of our better nature as it occurred with Harvey. Where they were talking mode because having the federal government step in and kind of help out with this natural disaster. And the same time tie those two and those two. Sort of acts together or or two's are sort of on. Be a make sure that the government doesn't shut down as well as as well as arise the on heroes are your raise the debt ceiling exactly so. So here you have a mean not that I want natural disaster to occur by no means. But the same time the U it was very reassuring to see. The politicians of both sides of the I'll just say look K well we we're we're gonna disown the federal government truly is here for. You know to help the people that have been BC dispossessed by a thousand year flood over a word ever there were Russ saying and as. And be able to kind of BBC do their jobs in health and the fish Eagles select are users are pretty exactly. Go whether they're gonna mention of bill's old Jack to me and this is kind of why we elected these individuals is to do this and so. You know we we we these are all reasons that we certainly hope to. Be sort of addressed in the next couple of weeks. But at the same time and this is why September for advisors right now on for market watchers is a little bit scary because anyone of these can truly set off a of what could be scary time. Well it's a lot of that only gives a lot of folks listening maybe it's time to maybe take some gains up the table especially if you're close to retirement they get a rescue entire retirement on all these things that that are going on. Our recommend that you have a plan in place before you get there Sony too long to get the weekly market report. Matt just did a summary of a bit each and every week we send a market report that goes over a different concepts of the market. We find that our clients and folks are radio listeners over time. Really get so much more knowledge overtime because each and every week they read a different piece three different piece and a short pieces overtime and adds up to a lot of knowledge so.
