I'm gonna have chicken for lunch and had chicken for dinner on Sunday and upright have chicken what are more two more times this week. And we're gonna begin our show today with a conversation about tricking him into why would I listen to a financial field starts off talking about ticket. Everybody it's very interrupted. It's actually price pretty good question marks are talking about chicken right. It's delicious it is delicious food is delicious by the question. You're big fan of chuckling well the law's taken nude love stricken how would you feel if you went to Tripoli. And you learned that their trick the chicken your buying from Tripoli would lose. Produced in China and exported from China to the United States and your your eating. Chicken from chick filet which is your favorite forms taste good I don't care you don't care now while we're taste good they go through like there requisite is safety checks and everything like that I don't care why is the United States importing chicken from China I wanted to tell you truck is in the minority by the way I posted this on my FaceBook page. And Tucker if you ever chance take a look at my FaceBook page he got lit. That on this. On this particular question. Nobody is willing to Od on my FaceBook page and burned by for. Nobody is willing to buy. Chicken that is cooked and exported. To most of which are cooked in China and 97 people I don't I don't want pre cooked chicken now that it's it's you know I don't know I don't know it's cooked in China and then exported. To the united zone and out of that doesn't work for me I want a ticket that says at least he's flip flopping. He's gonna tell he was pre cooked chicken I thought trick play it was going to be cooking this thing up on those delicious little rules they see we went into a trade deal may. This is a trade deal that was concluded in me. And China has begun exporting chicken to the United States. And in exchange for that we get to sell China beef in liquefied natural gas it's it was a deal was trade deal. Yeah and in pretty. It's as a result of this China gains the ability to send us this cooked chicken which it's interesting they can always and cooked chicken action and it's primarily due to concerns. About bird flu being shipped around the country bird flu can't survive cooking but if you send you know raw meat around the world it is something that could spread in that fashion and we saw the back in nov 2019. Their 2013 rather you've seen quite a few bird flu deaths in China and that's the big reason why they can't ship and he brought chicken over into the US with the the logic in the east off the carpet. Nina this era container ship. If he keep it re even though it's cookies have to keep referred to it doesn't seem like you'll be cheapened. To justify a Speedo. Nothing is certain I guess maybe on the West Coast I can't imagine it coming they all you know here you know and the almighty no we haven't party. Well I mean when he put that plan I listen you know a new chance at the end of the day how do we really know anything like let's be honest here but. I just like I was a little surprise when I saw it that we are now eating. Cooked chicken from trying to. It's it's a little strange to be shipping cooked chicken 101000 models now it doesn't quite you know that's how they are not spend locally we we are inspecting. We've read where we have you know used department hell does inspecting the chicken and make sure it's safe and but. Did you study at throw that out there hate it it could I haven't figured out how to really turn into so are you seeing these primarily like fast food restaurants or to your privacy your grocery store the secret. She's it's her home opener several hours. I had Tucker employed at every look at the labels now. Proposal made in China you chicken breasts. And they are I I are made in China assembled in the US this is the a week we've had over a hundred people had just been voluntarily post on my FaceBook page but if you want to take a look. At this as a whole question just go to our website financial exchange showed a convert simple question will you buy Chinese poultry. 60% of you saying yes 40% saying no and I have that I I don't sneaky feeling all three of us have already had Chinese pulled. We just don't know I sure hope not that we need at a track. Spoke I believe that the the band Barenaked Ladies was actually ahead of the curve back in the late nineties Tucker if you remember there was a line called chicken to China the Chinese kick that is accurate and they were they predicted this whole thing out there are onto something they predicted this whole thing Canadian band. A night in a Canadian hosts it is my job circle it's it's my job to enlighten you and I thought he'd like to know that you are now eating. Chicken is cooked China. As a analysts are fine them or you know did stop yeah that's right before you know. Right now we're getting to be dictators. Home prices suited to the Chinese mean it is. Home prices jumped six point 2% in the second quarter and they have the clips that 2016 hi. Yet the the media median existing single family home price. In the first quarter was 232000. Dollars which was up six point 9% from the first quarter of 2016. And you're actually seeing in some parts the countries of increasing. Speed of price growth and price appreciation here. In particular single family homes increased in price and 85%. Of measured markets 152. Out of a 178 statistical areas and so it's pretty broad based there's not a whole lot of parts of the country what does that you think the you know we've created about 2.2 million new jobs in the last years assault related to job growth. I think it's it's a largely related to job growth there's no doubt about that. But I also think in general. You know it's partly the people who've been trying to save up money for awhile to buy homes and you know we know that first time home buyer still don't make him as much of the market is we want them to the downer and I believe 32% compared to around 40% which is what the the goal is but I think you're seeing some increased demand for first time home buyers even if they're having to pay more for properties to get into. Not much inventory in a well he'll tight you know one point 96 million existing home sales for sale put that in perspective. There were two point 11 million a year ago currency you look at that your per year. You've gone in terms of months of supply because that's how realtors measures this right if you talk to realtors will say edu there's nine months of supply. In healthy market would they like six months six months my masters of their own for the quarter four point two and used to be four point six. Your yeah so you know to supply. Well an ant again who's that good for. Differ baby boomers right we like that because we're thinking about sell our house is up. We'll talk like you guys because your generation is that and about and we're going to be able to command more money for. Yeah there's there's no doubt that if you are someone who already owns property you're benefiting from this I think part of it also owned in terms of increased home prices in the and lack of inventory. Is the growth of things like air being beat previously let's say that you at a second property yeah okay and he said look I'm moving out of this I just I can't deal with it anymore no there was the easy way for you to generate rental income that there are some other sites for a longer term rentals BR BO and things like that. But I think that era B&B has allowed people hold on the more properties as well you're as good point I monetized easier way and and they're not as desperate to sell our. No they say look if I can just make backpack carrying costs why would I you know I can I can cover my taxes and then kind of go from there. And they barely getting to live in a place that they like get in nine total existing home sales in the northeast. Rose one point 3% in the second quarter and our point 4%. Ahead of the second quarter of 2016 permit numbers though we have permits and starts numbers this morning Belgrade you know those are both down 4%. I fixed permits I think starts actually was down more than that. Let me pull the data on it right now permits was actually in decent shape still below one point two million. But housing starts dipped by about 5% moving compared to last month I don't know why that's the case. On the I'm not entirely sure trying to think this for the month of July. It could be just related to wind July 4 holiday fell this year I don't know if that is something to do with it but. Not in housing still continues to kind in jumping in starts in fits it's not really moving as consistently as he'd like. Home depots in we're talking about a few retailers that Home Depot. You know we reported yesterday great quarter same store sales up 64%. And reached revenues Europe and earnings Europe. Union their stock Tuesday. Stock was down yesterday and in the big fears people are starting to wonder whether or not Home Depot and Lowe's and so forth are going to lose some ground Amazon when it the company who they've previously been able to fend off pretty well I I've told you guys in the past and he disagree with me that. I I think I can tell you. I'd buy things on Amazon that I used to go. Two a rockets at Home Depot but I used to go to the hardware store for so I'll I'll say is at a bad Amazon experienced. Would I had to I bought a new TV. They lost the TV. On the lake district I expect that easy I thought I consider them going the thing is not like this is not always a 65 inch right that you didn't lose a Paris hot public transit. Don't wanna get into that now but my wife might be with snow. I don't. We got we've begun flipping through Gloria that's it age getting married a year achieve absolutely we. He was getting married I estimates that he keeps seekers for all know we're gonna have completely. You know open financials and I she's gonna know everything and kind orbit searching an area woes was a branch did lie I was geology. As he spent pretty panicked they're it was it was as nice Stevie. And I got a call from them today was supposed to be delivered right now call him. They called me and they said you know were relieved the warehouse now we we we're not able to find TV at the warehouse. And I'm sit down going well oak okay this incident they've been great since that the follow up so why did you glee did you work to. About a week ago. Why would take a week better than it was like forty you know you scheduled delivery and install Ole Ole they. There installing their installed two could somehow in the mounted in the yeah ruling. Well as news to will supposedly have been figured out but they've been greats like they lost count so I I talked to someone this morning and everything. They're big break they promised me a great product that will be apps they said Harry it'll be there and will upon him how to and it's gonna be is already. It's gonna work so as a result in them losing this that you give me 10% off now. Head to ever sit opposite that you haven't. I'll take I'll I'll wait for a week. The site it's it's free money you know so. But but yes I was down like how do you lose a TV it's it's a little I have no idea that they offered is that through an outside vendor yesterday's big contract is it a division of Amazon's called Amazon home services and they have all different contractors that'll come in and do work for you based on what you order from them it's it's bigger. But that. There's service since the the losing has been great but maybe they did lose TV is like I do have to give a little crap about which your Forte. Yup. 10% some gonna go along wideout. I had to give cards with a veteran now were all women know it's probably not that one I I I know the one you're looking out it's not Alka. Just dominating taking over the workplace it's good to see. There I they're they're coming back in droves with what's the a story behind the story. Yeah Phil he is especially the last two years and especially among younger. Prime meet two women are those that are around 25 to 34 years old largest is. Coming into the workforce as a defendant drove it they're really outpacing the men in that regard and I think one reason we've found is the industries that they're going into a lot of these health care industries that are dominated by women are. Are growing quite rapidly so kind of accommodating that email coming back and. Just to be clear they'll. Women aged 2554. Are still in the workplace. At a lower percentage than men in the same group by about what 13%. Absolutely so what we size and narrowing of that gap and go along know how long standing gap between men and women labor force participation of of course there over the decades. And we thought that narrow you know late eighties early ninety's but by a mile long chat and an hour over the past two years we've got narrowed to the beat the smallest margin. He did in record stating that the post world court in the year which is as far back as we go with labor force because Haitian government data though. Really when that are making faster gains while men are are kind of stagnating in terms of their labor force because station. When the that the president recently emphasized that Americans need to be open about relocating for work mobility. Has climbed to an all time low why. Has worker mobility decline to such a low level. Let's get questioned at Mina plummeted to different social. Carrot out there and I can't economists they're picking on social theory that think that. You know which they tie it to low levels of trust. American. That there's just one period Marek hard. A lot of people are just finding its its not worth it in the movie they just don't know yet exactly where to move and then they're not seeing you know the options but they'd like to speak. I think another reason is wage growth is is he not think it could still quite sluggish and I'll let people. And I looked at to beat bill but maybe people are the fighting mad at it's not worth it to move for a job yet. How does the cost of child care played this equation. You know a decaf I look at the cost and it is just remarkable. To me especially here in the northeast are as to get we pay young people pay for child care to stock act like it's almost not worth going back to work. Not the Lillian a fascinating really believe that story from mattered and that's been happening over the past two years he left captain. People in the younger age group of laws on the older script with children who say you know. It yet if we don't find it or that it is I'm out of its but you know I can't paint her child care and I can't find a job that would. Would outpace her it didn't the childcare costs though and we have also talked to some people are over eat too. Don't wanna come back until they children outside because people have to pick itself Garrett as such it's certainly something that became. Nobody is politically he is child care free and overseas. I have some people did it well it's believed a lot less expenses. I think in some countries he added in Europe they're part of your freaking get it for free at a certain negative pre K. Levels and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. In Germany has made strike and I are very Islam. But Germany has a year two years maternity stuff. Sounds right and that's exactly yet again that means that quite quite a big issue for labor market watchers during announced paid leave maternity leave it looks like a child care benefits and while we're gonna do about that. We also leave your story talk about women starting businesses. In what our careers I think of this being male dominated like jamming like electrician handyman work window and door again I looked it all that. Different jobs you listed here in hockey I think of those is male dominated jobs. Yes silly silly talk to some attack which listening appear that he notices services let's play that connects to the people we're trying to get more done and these days people were lifting that the this small businesses are lifting on that site it'd be dissected their survey data and announcement. And these these women are coming into a lot of these professions that you one might think it is fair male dominated. I don't know that it met a woman Palmer before that there are many many of these businesses I mean that's 1% up yeah yes. Theater really starting at the a lot of that participation among women and again I'm not as much growth among the man. Or get buried with thank your for your time we per share John. Michelle cameras go from Bloomberg I new young woman her dad had a very successful plumbing practice and and he was getting older she had graduated from U mass and had worked of them periodically. She made a lot more money. Working as a plumber taking over his business offshore than she ever could have Yemen in another a lot of work so. Where their college degree from U mass she's now working in running nice poems I continue to see contractors of all types that are looking for. Skilled laborers and they they just don't have that child care cost though the huge how to overcome like it it's like I have a family can't. It is so that's got to be. Keeping the birth rate rate eve family's legacy and we we you know make it forty grand she's naked fifty grand. There's no way we can afford to racist kid. It's true but the thing that I look at is child care's not a permanent expense. And I think a lot of people almost view it as one you do construct even like when they get to school there in school full time and yet Summers yet after school being used to pay for those after school programs. I guess I just kind of look at it and say look one at a range something with the parents in your neighborhood where you just trade off who's taking care of the kids now that's you know you need that and you need the new you know the extended fail yeah exactly there there are ways to work through it you know. Coming up well take all this village I hear yes well Wall Street watch and trivia question from our insurer match dot com to. Making your Smartphone even smaller here. Time now for mostly watch a look at the market's performance so far today until Berrian jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. Michael Armstrong joins us now for Wall Street watching what has become a. Daily. Look at our retail earnings. Mike thank you for joining us. Might do more retailers today let's start with target coming into a better than expected in pulp sales actually looking pretty decent for. They are you know they're. We've had a big week of retail and that target in one of the I guess you're shining light there their credit drop in the dollar 23 per share vs estimate the dollar nineteen. As you mentioned it the other revenue and comps sales really what's moving the stock is their outlook is just the third quarter and full year outlook which was well above analysts' estimates. The stock was up about 4% in premarket but again as it has in the story resolve these retailers that just a lot of pessimism about the future of the stock is up. About a dollar one point 84% on the news today and move in debt you're there. Let's turn over talked about a no other retailer you're this one Urban Outfitters. And in looking at their quarter must've been a blowout is there a 21% of that. So it was important keep this stock in you know keep that in mind that if the companies that over the last year has at a higher. Nearly forty dollars share and it just moved up to date that weight dollar range. They did beat on estimate. They're in the dollar per unit earned 44 cents per share estimate the 37 can be pretty substantially there and they are called sales have been following it felt four point 9%. But analysts were actually expecting a drop of course and 7% to beat on that pretty substantially. Yet the stock that like many of these similar you know clothing companies. There are still concern here stock is in sharp decline over the last few years and it just about whether or not they'll be one of the survivors. Good Mike thanks for the time. As Mike Armstrong with Wall Street walked in SP sell a lot of stuff on line. Urban Outfitters I know they sell a lot on AM Amazon as a CD orders coming in third place in my kids. Yet I think they still do the majority of their sales. Through their stores but. It's the same store sales are down four point nine yes it's again I think in general just was a case where wasn't as bad as people thought it was going to be that's Urban Outfitters are talking about. New England's old TJ Maxx companies the apparel and home goods company with divisions such as TJ Maxx marshalls and home goods. Released a strong second quarter earnings report yesterday were asking trivia questions today about TJX. In what year it did the first TJ Maxx stores open. Our text number is 68680. We still giving away tickets for the golf event but that's what it is it's the Dell technology also acknowledges championship. TPC divisional Boston in Norton right now anyway if you wanna win those tickets be the first listener with correct answer our text number is 68680. In what year did the first TJ Mac's stores open. All right let's take a look at that we tied TJ they reported yesterday dolphin. And it of these stock went down right. Who were talking about TJ Maxx now the other reported yesterday they they're actually one of the few companies out there that is seeing on same store sales growth still than and they actually they opened. Oh about 4% at the end up closing maybe about 1% from the previous day today they're up an additional 1% but. They're one of the few retailers that is at least continue and get some traction. They're also going to be opening up a new brand of a new home furnishing store starting in a couple months I believe what it said Dix go down 23% they had a decent core pretty much day they guided just terribly and and really when you look at what Dick's. Is seeing here. They're just continuing to see. A lack of demand from a couple of the key growth and is pleased to have their their golf side is still very sluggish I was high margin business still was and and there's been a ton of consolidation in the golf space to begin with you. You've got all kinds of golf retailers that are going out of business called manufacturers are either shutting down. Or merging and as well so it's that's a space that is going through a hole one of our people up upheaval right now and coaches down 15% yesterday. Tough time to be a retailer is beat people are buying things the way they used to that's true mr. during all the. August Cushing and old is giving away their 2017. To Medicaid update it is. And Netflix is gonna do it's not bad it's 56 billion dollars just this year I think you have to ramp up like you don't just say here's twenty billion dollars goalie you need to develop policies and procedures otherwise you just throw bunch of money at the problem. This is what it takes away because I think unit and alienate people from their App Store because they get paid. They get a 15% commission I didn't notice you know that when you download the Netflix app on your iPhone. Apple gets a 15% commission her and when you download the HBO go app. On your iPhone the F 15% commission approach so upon HBO go in Netflix don't I tell apple to screw. Her right well how can you tell not produce content. Plans yet is Netflix and an Amazon need to distribution. Now they need to distribution apple cisneros and I use I don't use my iPhone to watch Netflix because never I use my apple TV yields on coal. Now well anyway they're getting into the the movie everybody's into the that content is Amazon seems like Amazon's. Would they do they they're doing big money good time be writer and actor all. Great time it's good time beer writer and actor at a consumer is a lot of stuff to watch this this too much content now. They get burned out a lot of good stuff I don't know there's there's so much make contact area it's it's just it is they they put out some phenomenal product is bad is the moviegoing experiences today know what you can see home. It's never been well and also the home theater you can build today is better than the other area so you can. Used ye in the comforting your own home you got to drive to the theater you don't have to spend twenty bucks at the snack bar. I got the park you have to walk through the green right you just walk downstairs. To your home theater. Which didn't cost that much to bill. And you watch what you want when you and your home theater ordered on Amazon watching movies delivered in your house Wally your pro blue apron meal so you never need to leave. It's beautiful world what has society become death whit what what has happened to his merry digital fat under the slur almost 50% obese. Yeah now we should have more time to exercise it a kind of feel like we're reaching the tipping point peak of BC's I think we may act I think. It at some point you know Americans are gonna just wake up and said he by tipping you mean the world is in his right. Yeah bullies turn off axis because of all the weight literally I was it's more of an American problem and and morals or know that it's getting the world is slowly tipping towards America and eventually we're just gonna fall over. If a spouse enters in nursing home Howard joint bank accounts and joint brokerage account like investment accounts mutual fund share are they at risk and and and how does it vary for single individual. So if you're married doesn't matter whether it's a joint bank account or joint investment account. Everything. Is considered accountable for Medicaid eligibility and you know what else there that's not mentioned here how about IRA accounts from. IRA retirement accounts also at risk for the cost of long term care so it doesn't matter whether to joint brokerage or joint bank account. You gotta put all the money on the table. And start from there. Different however when your Singleton. Right. So when you're single they have a different rule joint bank accounts with a child you throw to hit on as a joint owner right they do it all the time. If you do that then the joint bank account is deemed 100%. At risk and unless you can prove that that other person put money and we know they didn't count you know look who Social Security numbers on look who's. Pensions going in there and look whose Social Security's going in there. That's for bank accounts but for investment accounts fidelity account of the world right it's deemed. 50% or pro rated. Based on the number of owners on the account so if there's a spouse if there's one child on their than 50% of that would be deemed. Not at risk so interesting distinction between the two. The financial exchanges live on FaceBook and YouTube watch Berrian chug discuss the issues of the day and see which one smiles at the most. Days as the financial exchange radio network. The first two TJ Maxx stores opened in Auburn. And Worcester Massachusetts in the year 1977. I think we have a winner in which we did not have a winner there. Did not have a winner of those time ever I think there might have been a little confusion the other brand was founded in 76 but didn't open their first store until 7070 sites. Just a little bit of a tricky one here on the financial exchange let's go over to Chelsea side from Morningstar here do little stock talk with us Kelsey thank you for joining us. You'll see we're talking about Vertex Pharmaceuticals this is a company that had a big run up a few well maybe about six weeks ago now. Largely on the back of some better than expected drug trials that were going on a question to you is are you bullish on the Mindy think there's still some room to wrong. Yes I mean enjoy I think we're still bullish on them we model I'm 110 dollar per share their value after it. Rate out of stocks trading a little bubble one that people that we don't think there's about a attempt at a side that stock. Despite the market jumped after the positive triple combo resolve them. I'm beat Thomas triple concourse all their couple implications for comment though. One protection that unprecedented benefit and a difficult which re Haitian population and it kind of represented next lighted opportunity for the and in QL liquidity risk there's there's if it ever at this portfolios while. Just because not only did they have one shot on net or cute shot that they have four shots on net. I'm in late stage testing as well a lot of preclinical mop molecules. Looking at this company what's the greatest risk for them going forward. Yeah our shared I guess the biggest risk would be that they're not able to capture as difficult to treat a patient population or that. The data shows. Safety side effects or. I'm not graded out great at sixty in late stage testing the ring now. The stock rose on early date results. Common occurring amid a potential these three casting after they kind of sort out. And the rest of their molecules. The rest of it lies with felonies. Developmental. I think that organized these they're there could be the side effect it could be the act that could be concerned but the fact they have multiple candidates really kind of hubris that that that content. Company like this even though the pharmacy actors typically thought of as being relatively stable when you think your big pharma companies. Even though this is a forty billion dollar company if it still has some significant volatility correct. Yeah I cracked it especially in the past he's making an on tech has been building up as the extent that this type fine for a while. But really now added how the strip conflict in what has really been been able to adjust on the typical street patient population which. About 30% of the the F patients. On the any able you. Kind of reached more people I mean it's still a buyout acted style numbers involved. But because they have a monopoly essentially on the is that I've as the market and it limited your turn competition at kind of moving into a different decades. It is Vertex potentially an acquisition target at this point are they too big. For someone to make a run at them. Yeah I get the airplane and missed that I presented it could be a target. But that's sad and like you mentioned it is that use. Market cap currently is could be difficult sound as if current limit that. Competitions you from big I'll former players. What did you was that your price target was on the company again. All right. Very good Kelsey thank you very much for the time. It's that is Kelsey side from Morningstar talk about Vertex Pharmaceuticals with the ticker BRT. Acts I think of Vertex is being a fairly recent phenomena. You know only company that. Really gained fame in the last ten years. It it seems to be believe it or not a lot of people don't realize just how long the path is for these Barbara companies just to get started up. Vertex was founded in 19891. Hokies they've been around almost thirty years at this point. But he talked about when they finally started. It's a really get drugs moving through their pipeline. It was like 2000 to 2003. When they finally started getting things approved and so forth so for a lot of these start up the a buyer tax. It's fifteen years before you get something that's actually. Approved an out there when you're losing money that whole way that the people don't you are candies your literally unit the venture capital investors in that company. Are losing. Tens of millions of dollars per year betting on mr. They are and and Vertex finally got to the point that you remember they built that beautiful new building down on the house South Boston waterfront about one C three or four years ago now. And we cannot they've got about 18100 employees at this point. They're produced about one point five billion dollars in revenue at that right now so those are well paid employees folks whose army is are people making seven grand a year yup it's they they certainly and they put a ton of money into R&D at this point is well they're spending. On an annual basis about a billion dollars a year on R&D and you know when you think of R&D. It's technology but it's also those people the scientists it's a chemist is its hunt of highly compensated employees. And that's part of the reason why you continue to see. I think a lot of activity in Boston on the housing front as companies like this. They're the ones that are driving its year continuing to see a big push from these highly compensated employees. In the housing market. In Boston but you're also seeing people push back against the cost of drugs right so. Yet this simultaneous. Resistance. To high drug prices and you kind of wonder. What that does. To a city like Boston unity thing you and it's not just Boston anything about New Haven, Connecticut they're trying to build up there. The their their drug business as well what does that do if you if you all the sudden you get socialized medicine or single Payer and you know there's no appetite to pay a 100000 dollar for drug treatment going. It and that's the big question is you say you know we've talked an awful lot about how we. Appear to be on the verge of making some major strides against fighting things like cancer and you sit there and you say how much would you pay. To save someone from cancer because that that patient can't pay for their own treatment so it's how much will all of us collectively pay you know. If it's we're going to have some higher costs. And we need to figure out how to pay for because the technology is going to be the. Well people rebel against the drug costs night and then they get a load of what the you know the sour memory of the conversation about the tufts nurses and they're making a 130 grand younger. You were very in favor of the tufts nurses. Date being paid more than a 130000 dollars a year but they yes and well gee do you think that companies should be allowed to charge underground a year for drugs no. Ali that does take its eggs or so it just interest in how we compartmentalize like yeah well you know like as the nurse is your neighbor right. And the drug is. Chemical agent yeah and you don't think of that is being yuppies on the personnel working in a lab for ten years trying every single thing that he could think of until it finally figured out what was going well it's hard to appreciate the value of a drug or will it what was that drug perhaps see if that was also Boston based company in India trying to cost like eighty grand yeah for treatments and all people we. That's what you pay. They the Dow's up seventy points the NASDAQ is up 25 points oils at twelve cents a barrel. My name's Barry Armstrong. Hi everybody it's very and chuck from the financial exchange were having a conversation today. Regarding municipal bonds a lot of you heard about municipal bonds that you may not understand. Weird they could fit into your investment portfolio chuck I wanted to talk about the different types of municipal bonds because I think that's a good starting place for this conversation. Yeah and in general there are two major types of municipal bonds there what we called general obligation bonds GOs and then we also have revenue bonds general obligation bonds tend to be a little bit more stable is that not dependent on any one type of revenue coming from a state or city but rather their backed by what we call the full faith and credit of that municipality are so aren't they are ones that are more preferable to others currently Q1 would what would you consider one type of municipal bond. To be safer than another general obligation bonds tend to be because they can pull revenues from any stream coming in in order to pay. Those bonds revenue bonds on the other hand to typically coming from one source and airport's revenue sports teams revenue something like that. And because of that they tend to be a little bit more unstable but he can also get higher yields on revenue bonds that's the trade off the face. Ari folks there's a lot that goes into the process. Pressure to leave the council and disassociate themselves with president trot. Hi everybody it's hairy and truck with you here. On a Wednesday morning we have to have this conversation yesterday we reported. Intel's price and if Chris on H leaving the council. You had the under armour CEO leaving I mean it just. Every day you have had a few more last night Richard Trumka the head of the AFL CIO he left the council. I've got to believe chart that they're under a lot of pressure all of them who remain are under tremendous round pressure Bob Iger has left the Ilan mosque is Kevin plank. Ken Frazier. You know bullet Bryant percentage we already reported I mean these guys are under pressure. And and I think you'd see more growth. I would I would not be surprised if you see a significant exists from. This council over the rest the week here Jamie Dimon. Jamie Dimon I'm surprises and gone already stated Jim has been a pretty outspoken critic of the dysfunction that he's seen in Washington Oakland the last few weeks he's been all over the news saying look we need to stop talking and start doing something now Schwartzman from blacks only. The ones that I think are most likely. To leave at the CEO Boston Consulting Group. I I don't think he leaves because it easy you just an interface of the drought problem not a consumer facing company that Doug MacMillan. He has the heat Doug MacMillan is the CEO Wal-Mart. I'd be shocked if he starts he got I honestly all these guys should be gone you know we thought it it's at at this point it's like you you've got to just say enough is enough well I don't think Jack will truly Jarrett Jack so I don't either. But I I would advise all of these people believe that council as soon as possible Ginny Rometty forbes' idea get out. How about in all injury in new he hit. The CEO Pepsi yeah. I I think she's gonna have to leave I I think they all should leave at this late if it. It's just a little ridiculous that we are having this conversation. Now it's. It the Mary Barra C merit bars under tough spot right why well because she's got. You know she's gonna get pressure from our employees to leave. She's gonna get pressure from consumers to leave right to people who buy her car ducked. And marriage are gonna get pressure from from from stockholders re all three to watch as you leave. Because she's working with the president to get the the emissions deregulation. Reduced memory the well emission standards. And Ian at a certain point like you have to say. That there are certain things that are more important and if you can't denounce Nazis and there's a problem here now. Well I'd gates it'll be very adjusting to watch who leaves and I think your seat chuck and Mike. Observation is that the the people Michael Dell. Don't technology I think he's gonna have to leave. I think they also believe. Maybe the author of the but I don't think Gail will I don't at and I want to be people that come back on I just think that pressured the highest degree of pressure. To leave that council will be on people that have a lot of interaction with the general public in and sell products to the end general policy. UT seasonally. The CEO of UTC's another Arnold defense contracts and everything. He's been doing there. Trumpet though we mentioned he's gone you know the trump got is the headed the AFL CIO Deming that was a big base as a big part trust vote and I wouldn't be surprised to see a whole bunch more gone in the next few days and we'll see. UPS is training drivers. With virtual reality headsets. Well I will tell you that this makes a lot of sense using virtual reality. For training of a lot of different professions pilots right young you think you pilots could use it surgeons could use you just think of this. Number professions could use training was virtual reality hits. You've reduces training costs and allows you to train people anywhere in the world and I think in general this is going to be something that continues to pick up. Across a number of industries you know you mentioned some of the obvious ones doctors surgeons pilots drivers but even looking you know some other areas where you can potentially use this. I wonder you know we always talk about you know. Give some of the things that people have to deal with just in their lives when the big things that most people out as a big fierce public speaking mocha what do all of a sudden put on a headset and it's like you're in front of a whole bunch of people he can train yourself that way. And learn skills what if you can go and if you want to go and be an electrician instead of having to go into all these hours on the job. You could say okay can look at some virtual you know circuit diagrams in that they're different things that you can do they. What a great way to go to school I I think as and allow somebody to go to school and get trained without physically being in that build. It exactly like pilots they used to have to go and they would sit in a simulator. Yup new riches and Norma virtual reality now they can do it and yet it's. I did the value of a simulators still in just some of the things that they can do was far simulating pitching on so forth so it does give you some things they're just you know feel related but I I do think that you are going to continue to see a bigger push towards some of these virtual reality devices. As the cost comes down to companies realize what they can do with. There's a plan for new Coast Guard museum to be located in New London kinetic it. Yeah this is a museum that is going to be going up on the the New London waterfront. And it is are going to be costing over a hundred million dollars. Believe it or not so it's a pretty sizable project this is not you know some some tiny little project at the putting up there. On the Coast Guard. Yeah on the gonna be relying on about thirty million dollars in federal funding of fifty million dollars in private donations in the state of Connecticut. Has also committed about twenty million dollar. Hotel in New London could use the shot in the arm because New London news. To beautiful cities right on the water in EC it is your driving down 95 from if Iran from Boston to new cave under the city New York. Yeah in and then you go downtown it's it's an old city. It is beautiful but it's very rundown. And it's very did downtown of of New London is pretty dilapidated this would give them a shot they are because who do drive a lot of tourism to that area. Yeah and it's going to be again a pretty sizable facilities can be about 80000 square feet so it's good sized. And I think in general this is something that you mentioned you know how to we get more people into the area. What part part of what you have to do in order to attract people long term for jobs and is gonna come through to begin with oh hey this is a nice place like to see myself living here it is a nice area it's a beautiful it's gorgeous down there and so as you start to get more people coming through. Maybe get them beacon in the back of their mind hey there's some good jobs here I could see 92000 pool. It's affordable there's a lot of good jobs that's were electric boatmen's yup they're hiring hand over fist they can't find workers fast together trying to almost double the size there workforce in the next five years and lots of opportunity. Worcester City Council votes in support. Of an effort to woo the pos socks from Rhode Island. When they should talk to people Hartford Connecticut before they do bad move for what's to hear stopped giving away taxpayer money to baseball team. It's talked armored. Talk to Hartford about how much money they spent they know just don't like the it is one of the worst investments that you can make I would rather have towns just like their money on fire and then try to try to bring baseball our idea that's that's. No he's you can provide heat down. You know ways to provide like every study that's been done you go read any of Andrew Zimbalist work he's right down in Rhode Island at the keys that. I forget that the college days out down there. But you read any of Andrew Zimbalist work in pretty much all the says that the second you start putting public money towards stadiums there's no plea or take the money from somewhere else right. Think about all the New York cops you're fire art fighter treatment broke you it seemingly keep you can go down the list and say it would rather have a Minor League Baseball team or couple extra police officers. Well there is of woke up at that what happened is that it next DA in Europe what's happening here is that he can't make it on some take it that an electric car to the local. And means that if you look at how much it costs. On a typical Soviet double the total cost of ownership. Next BA in Europe and the it will be possible to have again the EPO forget the the same for electric car for apple com. Generally does it look like a bit longer. The rest of the world of people are talking about sort of 20/20. Three navy had a tap that he is on now whack that cost over the course but he did have running an electric car will be equal to load but not for apple cup. I was reading about the cost of batteries and he may come down pushed the you know just. Dramatically these. The ethos was writing that the athlete is just getting much cheaper much back because the same country technology that annual small fine. I'm not what really helped bring it down that the crisis. But not yet been given amount of we now out of all of my back a 5%. In 2010. Not me you get a local factory that sort of 101000 dollars that you buy at 2530000. Dollar off. It had about adult about will be the factory and we will now take heat to 300 model instead old fifty and not make the whole proposition. More attractive. But I've also read those that you know the cost of lithium and cobalt is going through the roof so I gave there's a disconnect there Tom help me understand where our battery cost can be coming down to the material to make the batter is totally up. Well firstly we can't conceive the material it's not like pat let me beat out of the ground we bought it don't. That you could recycle batteries in a way that you copy cycle petrol. But exactly what has happened and again expect the yen the price stability of that storm couple thousand dollars a tonne 141000 dollars a tonne in the talk about it. What I mean it is about to signal the miners. Dot. This is something people walk and you could go and find more of it in the ground about exactly what happening people are finding need to pull it has promoted South America over the Tampa beat. Portugal and Australia before and we seen this in the pocket Alec Morton hospital over the price adopt these people. Make more effort to look at ease supply. What are we about 85%. Of Americans commuting to work in a car. Yeah it's 85% top putting at about 35% driving on the Iraq policy my car that the US. That is in Europe where we have been able to transport that added that the city. Most of our listeners have never billion and electric car my co workers have never been in an electric golf cart. On our our electric car is easier to build and service and explain if you can try to explain that to somebody who's sitting to my right in and out of that so Hannibal. Don't watch the debate debate different is that I did kind of about and I did that very very complex piece of machinery and what can't make it something you kind of that ability to make these amazing machines work reliably. Talk about what that but they definitely send it just basically have actually. But it is. That mark Lester got wrong he needs you call. You need fewer people to build them and the amount of maintenance you have to do them it must Lola has analyst with bank that the off the market that spending on. That call the maintenance is gonna be about sixty dispensable for electric. This is back he's a Turk talk talk. Companies backing the north the you know that you just gonna make that money and let the thing that I would try to put it it's on topic. I mean these new electric car to the same people we basically need no maintenance the first 150000 miles what you thought it. And this hypocrite accomplish much much simpler but frankly that left the Iraq. Like you pointed that out in your total cost of ownership right because you're not paying for oil changes. Yeah one of the big but that the key is that he's yet to open the open you'll be aware if you really like each delegate. Not help as well. What about total car emissions will how much. Our emissions reduced because you're still using electricity which is the most part it's produced either by nuclear power natural gas or. Is that it was even if it turns out that spending. You inept power station is much more space in the but it didn't get. Objectivity thing and be more patient when you do them all about scale. And big cup nations could do little to clever tricks that we we claiming heat from the middle it. Stop the tape that you you've got kind of up to twice occupation be right back. The other thing about electric power that the what you get the breaks they can do regenerative braking can be capped at some of that ING. And we talked about prohibit. So what I mean is that even if you're using fossil fuel that we don't yell to generate electricity the electric costs they'll come out ahead on a mission. Today in America let the culprit he's 54% lower admission. Even though you've got lots of gas. Told things being done that the aspect of an up agreed get Corina all the speedy electric outlet collegiate days but they're a big step forward even if you don't we need great. I'm not slide it up big east but also. We should we can prevent it not just the attitude that cold climate change is coming out article that articulate. Which schools also the horrible. Health problems than it it would keep the quality he added that he's not another big development of electric car but if that happens tailpipe emissions. That does that make it one prevail. Rightly you live next to a highly we know you're talking. On the lead to more the incidents. Of long illnesses next highways are boarded up. Didn't at least articulate to being linked to more and more it has more loyal to it but it really is a big problem when you look at the Aaron. In India or China and have a debate that he is. A Los Angeles. Or hopefully yeah. Would it what about the old batteries because that's and the thank you you think about. Will one of my kids wrecked my a a Toyota had a had a big battery what do you do with the old batteries when they weren't anywhere out there in the car we're. Exactly exactly that he indicated that the threat is that they couple called second life. Which is where they get to retire Annika is in the town where it. That is one of the benefit to beat back to getting back there is no dot com article that he could put the streets into your home and you know play cops and Procter and Japan and keep everything going night. We put it into the power grid to. It made things out you know if you don't win popped and the wind dropped to you lucky the power of black state. I'm not we can also go into great but it turns out that about we get kind of a bit worn out and you know. There is no suitable piece in the cardinal could not permit our. They can still be better used what can agree that not the first thing happened that it helped about you could restart for the but yet we are going to the new recycling facilities peaceful things. Starting to appear in Japan analytical. Been mulling. And that you get the king of valuable. And haven't been material inside the waste products. But that's been the people that stopped eating an apple app with the 38. Since ten years from now. Of all the cars would either billion cars on the roughly a billion as well so ten years from now how many of our cars will be electric. I don't think I think it's gonna take a while so I think I'm saying is that we might be. It has some people are saying maybe fifteen to it to 20% of new cost sale will be electric. And although he didn't like some of the talks sometimes ten to twelve create. Acceptable time to defeat to change. I think what we have to remember is that. That you that we we think that the title about it and it will both will be. If we can he get to the road there already some country the thing we know and allow vehicles outside to be felt like for the 20402050. I think. Actually most people don't want even by epic collapse out. An internal combustion engine in it by the time but it will take. A while I think the other thing that the picnic is gonna change it we're not gonna need a billion disparity in the peca because it. If we ought to use shed autonomous vehicles. Some people can't say that you can have the same amount of ability and fifty with a view it as 10% of the number of vehicles. We know about taking a look all we have to die and add and making the electric baton rethinking the way we think about. I'm fool all together and the electricity and felt driving autonomy. But very pickpocket. Yeah he is still an innate need internal combustion though for big trucks and planes and SharePoint. Partly that the plane to attended by technically kind of internal combustion engine and yet it's very very I'll make. The possibility of yet and that fifties there was still an app. And that the big articles critical you can build it. October is working on one knew about you know to be happy I mean about the need to be really enormous to have to be ultimately to the truck but it take my. So long about the technology would have to prove there really a great deal put to make talking what flopping you could probably use a few more planes in America. But that they get the good thing is that we make the cult electorate then we could still use. You'll be banned in other areas like aviation. And we went because it must damaged it to the to the climate three because. It will it will apply. Thank you very much tough we appreciate it. That's Thomas bandage from the economist talking to us about electric car seat any more convinced than you were twenty minutes ago still now still holds don't know. They say video pads ten pounds. But don't tell Berrian judge the financial exchanges alive every day on FaceBook and YouTube this is the financial exchange radio network. TJX. Reported earnings yesterday did pretty good quarter. TJX will be the subject of today's trivia. Where in New England is the headquarters of the TJX companies locate I know this when you know that you do. Architects number is 68681. Listener with the correct answer wins the prize it's a couple tickets. To the golf tournament at the TPC which is located in Norton. Massachusetts. Where in New England is the headquarters. Of the TJX. Companies located again our text number 66. Accelerating obligations is the subject of this segment auto loans now make up shot. 93. Per nine point 3%. Of Americans household debt loads. The categories highest share in federal or reserve bank data going back to the 2003. Yes obviously auto loans have picked up significantly. In the last several years we've continues the increasing balances on auto loans. The number of auto loans has grown and you know where it stands right now. You know auto wounds are now the I believe third biggest a piece of the debt pie that Americans own the biggest obviously is still mortgages and okay mortgages. Out of the almost thirteen trillion dollars that Americans have outstanding in debt. Mortgages make up somewhere around that nine trillion that's about 7075%. So think about this book she got a mortgage pain and of I don't know two or three grand a month penalty average mortgage payment is in new England and its top Brady doing New England homes are more expensive. Property tax it taxes are expensive and homeowners insurance. Is expensive than doing so you pay in two or 3000 bucks a month in a mortgage payment would be my gas. And then you slap on one or two car payments because not a lot of couples who have to carpet up two carbon one might be 400 dollars neo and might be as high 600. Yeah or more exactly see thrown a thousand there than you caught tossing your insurance or gas and everything. That adds up pretty quickly okay. And I think this is the big thing that we're starting to see here. Is that in particular one of these lower quality borrowers. Are starting to see problems with defaults on the wrong. Was gonna talk about that the sub prime market is. You know the the people with the 750 credits course they're making their payments. PL with a 560 credit scores which probably should have gotten alone in the first place surprise surprise are not making payments. How much blame do you place on the banks for those. While law and and I'll tell you the a lot of that gets manipulated. In the dealerships. Because what will be happening is it the the Bora war will sit down with the lender you know they beat the finance guy in the dealership. In the finance guy a look at the application Boeing. Then it's gonna be decline in the salient changer answered yes. If you don't change your answer this question I get united I don't guess what you're desperate for car you you'd change your answer whatever needs to say yeah and it. And I think that what's happening with auto loans right now it is a little bit concerning it's not something that threatens the stability of the entire economy just is the size of it at all if I relatively small compared to now the mortgage market but it is something. That you look at is say. But you might not threaten the stability of the economy but it could definitely and that being cause for a slowdown and if we continue to see problems here and if he starts he banks that have problems right off Seattle things like that. I think the banks I know the banks have already started to tighten that they got they have they are making a lot of these bad loans last year yup and they got caught by a few regulators it's all the sudden you've seen them tighten up the Santander bank was one of those thing does. That we're deal making some speculative loans out the flip side of that though folks is you know speculative. Loans are a lot more profitable. Then the high credit or is it the high credit score so. You don't think about it this way you save world. 30000 dollars to buy a car from bank from Bank of America will you shop that your good credit race. You're gonna get the best street around yeah if that's a little profit margin for bank of exactly if you're getting you know 2% 3% loan on those cars and I gonna make it a whole lot of money on August where they're borrowing the money here they have to pay somebody else of their spread might be 1%. Whereas if you're dead beat in the big charge when he 21% on it there and kill Allen you make those payments right they figure they figure look even if let's say it's a seven year Carlo. Even if you'll make the payments for three and a half years A days to get the car on the back and also. Well the car via U Leo and that's actually one of the problems they're having these cars are devaluing faster than they anticipated yup it's Iain. In particular I think it's via the share of cars that are treated in right now and have more outstanding on their loan than what the car's worth north of 35% that's bad. That's bad that when your role over auto loans it's not good you know right. I tell young people that I know. Who you know if you borrow money by car that's fine I mean we've all done that that's a natural. Currents not many people can afford to write a check for thirty grander 35 grand by a car cash. But if you borrow money to buy a car in your payment is 400 dollars. Pay an extra hundred bucks you'll get rid of that payment sooner and there's no more liberate you the best car to drive. One that's paid for rate the best car ever own is like a thankful without payment does end up you don't use your driving around you should edit your maintenance is still gonna to buy your gasoline or in my case electricity but. You're not paying that heavy pain in Allen that yeah Atlanta just a wonderful field. The odds it's it's important get rid of that as soon as possible is because again you don't get any tax breaks on it and it's your buying you do take that get out on a depreciating asset to begin with or it doesn't make sense. They during the month of August are strong advisory group is giving away free guide regarding municipal bonds. Who buys municipal bonds while rich people. You know we talked about Warren Buffett and yesterday we mentioned that he dumped his shares in General Electric. Loading up. Bill in the financial sector Warren Buffett is loading up he just bought another credit card company you know loading up on not secret he financial here. This as you mentioned is a credit card company and they bought nearly seventeen point five million shares this company. In the second quarter about half a billion dollars. Worth of shares in secret as a company. That IPO back in 2014 or previously a subsidiary of GE capital that's where secret he ended up coming out of and they are now. You know pretty substantial company and they do about thirteen or thirteen billion dollars a year in revenue. And Warren Buffett clearly likes what they are doing right now and so he has been. So I'm not on secret and they and they make a lot of their money in sub prime. Yes it's I mean it's they very much RE a sub prime lender in the credit cards. He sub prime is a great place to make money. Until the economy goes up until that. While it it's all based on the economy because that you're talking about BD the sub prime boer war you drive up he was credit scores that he you know. 550. 2650. Right up there are habitually. Late on bills why. Whether in and out jobs pretty neat it's difficult for them to maintain employment and they tend to be the ones again hurt. First when the economy goes south. Yeah I mean is they tent there's there's a reason why eight. Banks require additional interest paid on those. From those borrowers because they're bigger risk is chance that they might not be made whole and so they say look we've got to make this an interest along the course the payments. Up next are we talking about a trophy hunter who was trampled to death. By the elephant that he was content goes. Sometimes she. Incident they're free no obligation consultation that's 8039340. 01 you know we are talking about making extra payments on your car loan when we went into the break and I got a text question from 774. There I just bought it EW Honda the payment is 386 should I pay 500 dollars a month on the car. My answer would be yes make that extra payment of 500 dollars a month but there's a cabbie. Make sure before you making extra payments on your mortgage and make extra payments on your car. Make sure that you have. At least six months in your emergency what I mean by. Now add up all your household bills let's say your mortgages 2500 dollars a month. Let's say your car payment is another 500 dollars a month in your phone bill in your food yet all that up in you say boy it cost me. 5000. Dollars a month just to pay my bills just on a monthly basis cost me 5000 dollars a month. If you're a low risk profession what I mean by that low risk of being fired. Well then make sure that you had six months of money sitting in a savings can. And I'm talking out of care would enter street Macon on it make as much you can bet. Patriots six months if you're in a high risk perfection let's say you're you know your contract worker and you. Work from job to job patriot twelve months but make extra payments but not until you have the extra money sitting in that savings. Exactly what you saw Maliki otherwise you kind of robbed Peter to pay Paul you say a campaign is off quickly. But then you have no liquidity if anything goes wrong now and things Google anyways I did I can assure you things will go wrong. So this headline I just loved a trophy hunter was trampled to death. By the elephant he was hunting so be opened one in this case yet this was an Argentinian man now Jose humans Alves who was 46 years old. He was kill on a hunting tour. Apparently Namibia. The young elephant charged before they were able to set their weapons. Would or the use of rocket lives is just like a tough way to go out and trampled by an old then and you know what it if if your hunter made its Lee wanted to matter. I don't think you ever wanna get beaten by your pray there's another one. Another hunter Junius bold to. He was crushed to death spike by an elephant during a similar trip in Zimbabwe in May feel that now matter how. Crushed. I love it and keep in mind by the way it was when we talk about these elephants. They can be up to 121000 pounds at a pretty silly you're talking three cars ball. Now. Saddam. Good question here 603 Highbury question I've currently paying an extra fifty dollars a month on my thirty year mortgage is it worth doing absolutely absolutely. Do fifty in only if you do sixty to sixty. It make extra pay any time you have debt and not care whether it's thirty year mortgage or three year car loan or credit card bill Boyd just pay that Sakharov as fast and but if you have a thirty year mortgage you know you might say it will fifty boxes and to do that much better not do and anything. And you'd be surprised fifty bucks might take a year to off the mortgage borrowers that is they were instead of thirty year mortgage you've got a 28 year mortgage 27 I mean that's the Allen years say nobody stays in the house for thirty years. Need to see the you know we're really helped it truck is. YouTube you you get the situation we say okay a pay an extra fifty and pay an extra hundred bucks a month. And then also new go to sell the house you look at your ballots. Should pay down basically look at you know out of work in extreme you know 4050000 out by the time it's all said and done now now. Ari why the Yelp grub hub partnership is a match made in heaven. Yet this is something that we initially reported on a couple weeks ago Yelp is us selling. There food delivery business called 24 from 287 million dollars to grow up who was another food delivery company. I hate the top one and they do they do more of that than anybody else that's a wanna keep Jeff there's the biggest one out there there there's the biggest one in the space and but the other thing that Yelp is going to be doing here. Is there also going to be allowing descending a partnership between these companies so that you can place orders on Yelp through gore Grupo so if you go to restaurants page on Yelp there might be a little button that says hey order through grove while Miguel gets a little bit of kickback to the end abusing that platform. So it's it's something that gets. 24 into the hands of someone who has more experience in this business saw a picture help on that and I jury system either one of those surviving. You gave Yelp. Seems to be yet dear lunch eaten by trip advisor yup and growth hub I've got to believe Amazon's gonna kill. I don't know this space for a couple players that spacing the extra Bob's been doing a lot of consolidation even buying up a lot of companies grow up to five billion dollar company. You know like people realize like and what's Amazon. You know 700 no no doubt about it but I'd I do think Grupo of his built a nice reliable business that 500 million dollars a year in revenue.
