This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and chunks of you're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chunks so. It was about two and a half weeks ago when Paul Ryan reviewed and released the first version of the Republican health care plan. Donald Trump does not want it referred to as trump care because I don't think he's crazy about it. And early. Refuse. In our quite negative and I was quite negative on the play and Chuck Todd safer for somebody who's young. I think the plans actually pretty good if you if you're young and you have a job boy it's it's a pretty good plan. But for older worker like myself. Now the plan had a lot left ought to be desired hi everybody it's very and chuck chuck is back. And we're talking about the revised. Republican health care plan looks a little better at least we think it might look a little better than the first version. Yet it potentially does look a little bit better and provides a little bit more help towards seniors. Who in some cases we're gonna see outlays for premiums quadruple or Quinn topple. Depending on how much they made and exactly how old they weren't so obviously. With any type of plan like this you do see. The lawmakers having to go back to the drawing board and figure out really what is going to make the most sense in order to try to get. A bill past year I think the big thing I continue to come back to. Is that the dynamics between the house and the senate are very different. In terms of the types of lawmakers that you have largely due to how the house is district in vs the senate being statewide races okay. And so what you're seeing here. Is pretty similar to what we saw back in 2009. When President Obama was trying to push through the first version. Of obamacare you remember that the first version of obamacare. Had the fabled public option. That was going to be competition to health insurers and insurers didn't want anything to do with that is they were afraid of being priced out of the market. By an entity that could lose a ton of money just because it was backed by the federal government so where the public option never made it into the final bill. And you're gonna see things in this bill the continue to change as well just because in order to get something done. There are going to have to be significant changes and I think there's still is a decent ways to go before you get a bill. That potentially can pass both the out whose house and senate I think there's still work on these tea track. Who equity here for time frames. I'm hearing a lot of tenth to try to get something pushed through the house this week Thursday as a target to try to get something through the house and over to the senate. I think that that's relatively ambitious but it's. You know will will see if that can get done I think in terms of trying to get something through both the house and senate and through reconciliation. I mean here here's the thing if you start to get bogged down in this eventually. Support starts to dwindle just because it becomes an palatable to continue to talk about the built tested to continue to bring it up and so. I would say he probably got its. You know we're sitting here now it's march 20 you probably got to that end of April. To try to get something you know leased out there and in through both the house and sent otherwise I think you get bogged down to the some promise. And if you do then you ticket tax reform no after the date they're committed to getting to tax reform and awed by August and that's. Unity to your point you have to get through this health care issue it do you think the president weighed in beating mr. trump said hey guys you can't. Because I looked at chuck able. In the numbers. For somebody who was over the age fifty and modest income and will be described modest income 30040050000. Dollars a year. That segment of the population. Was getting crushed they they they work if you're paying truck gave the I looked at one example where 62. Year old who was. Went from paying about a 150 dollars a month to pain or near it almost all the space. It is health insurers say unit went to 18100 dollars a month for health insurance yet it is the preening goes up and the amount of government subsidy went down. Yeah and I'll tell you it's its interest in because as you start to go through the numbers what you see. Is that while the cost to businesses. For the implementation of obamacare were significant. If you worry senior and you were out on the individual market. You were having some huge benefits past your way action. You know if you were in those income levels that you mention obviously look the that the people that were hurt most by. Obamacare were businesses particularly kind of that small midsize business I know hundred to 250 employees really were hurt by it. And then also. Anyone with incomes of kind in north called a 125000. Which it's a lot of money but if you're living in a big city if you're in New York San Francisco Boston LA DC. Most people if you try to live in the C on that you're not necessarily rich you're kind of middle class for those cities. And so you know was higher earners and businesses that were really hurt by obamacare but what we're finding is that when you start to do the math and and look at what the options are when you pull some of the subsidies out of move things around. There were an awful lot of people that are in town that forty to 60000 in earnings that were helped an awful lot by obamacare and the problem is. If you look if if you simply say look. You're paying 2000 dollars a year 3000 dollars a year in premiums and all of a sudden you're gonna go up to 141000. Good night that person is voting the opposite direction pumped when he eighteen. Well in and we had a lot of text messages to that effect last week and emails the other people say hey this is not what I signed up for this is not what I. Thought I was being problem promised by Donald Trump so was sick I just don't think I told you the first day I didn't think he would allow. This legislation to you know go to the senate in its current form I think he's pushed back on Paul Ryan and said hey. These are my people these are people who voted for you can't hurt them that much for their health insurance. I tend to agree and I think that again you're gonna see this process continue to evolve here. But I think what we are learning is that a complete and utter repeal of the Affordable Care Act I don't think that's what we end up getting. I think I think ref and and I said I said this at the beginning I think you get tweaks to try to improve some of the areas that were hurt. Minute hurt people but I don't think you get a full repeal. Simply because I think it's too hard to do. Open your use is the tremendous problem. In the country team and we're talking about. All the lights which are pain relievers but then what happens is people get addicted to the pain relievers. And when their prescription runs out they graduate to heroin. And the week I came across a story which was frightening every 45 minutes truck each child is poisoned by all annually it's. As the epidemic grows so what you have been many situations where a young kids. You know zero to call it twelve years old. Parents are leaving these pills out in the kids are taken these old Buick pills and and overdosing on. Yeah and it and that's something that I didn't realize how India I I don't realize that was as big of an issue. As it is here again you know you're talking. 32 calls today it's 900 calls a month you're talking almost 111000. Children per year. That are being poisoned by these OP Lloyds in this fashion here. And over a fifteen year period you know you go from January of 2000 to December 2015. 190000 calls you know you're it's it's not a small and insignificant number. In the broad scheme of things so. I think you know that it's it's been an under reported. And I guess part of this hope you it epidemic just because. You know it's it's not these kids who are these kids not trying to abuse in the simply they're they don't know what they are in and getting themselves into trouble in fort. Do you guys know anybody that's overdosed on heroin. Currie to get inducted couple folks LU people yeah. The it it's rampant I you know I'm I'm 57 years old white guy that worked for me overdosed on on Harrell. And died he left is it is yet twelve year old kid. Died in an affected an orphan. The the reason this came up in today's show was we you know we're not gonna get on the bandwagon about heroin abuse. But there's a company called Nektar. In equal pay TAR. And they'd just recently had some very good success in a late stage study for an old Buick drug painkiller. That. Does not lead to addiction and it's do I guess the the problem that you have with open goods the current prescriptions truck is. He gets in your bloodstream really quick and uses this euphoric feeling and people get hooked on it's it's the dope means. It that gets released and if he gets released really quickly get you get hooked on that feeling yup well this drug by Nektar. And you might say to yourself heard this million time do better drug while the stock for Nektar therapeutics is up 20%. Yeah it's it's an interesting. Company a look at and obviously it's interesting concept I just I always wonder and again you said it yourself and you know. We hear about this all the time and then the drug doesn't end up. Meeting the expectations. I just wonder about the potential for abuses of it just because again you say OK the drug in in the form it's intended to be ingested too. Now works this way but what if someone figures out how to manipulated and a certain way and then all of a sudden it just becomes another one in a long line of mobile weights that are. Killing people. Well our poll question today is do you know anyone. Who has overdosed on heroin in I'm raising my hand I do know somebody who's overdosed on it. And it is a problem in every community within the wind out here with you live in Hyannis harper or Boston. Open your use and heroin addiction is rampant. And absorb poll question if you be good enough to participate our website addresses financial exchange showed dot com we wanna know. If you. We've been offerings he ran for almost two years now two years and his have been successful spent extremely successful we've. Offered this product to really target hardly in the hours were still collecting checks in paper form in this day and age. And the purpose of Iran is to really bring everything online meet electronic but more importantly. How did Pete said it and forget it so what's a landlord hazard ten and set up. And really there's nothing that needs to be done until the leases over. The rent is automatically drafted from the Tenet's account and you choose the date of the month as it always the first of the month or could it be there that's a sign attendant on the fifteenth could be the fifteenth of every month yup absolutely so landlord cites the initial date. Whatever day of the month that is. It'll be that same date every month and collected how much does it cost the landlord to set the saw a lot so it's absolutely free if Billy were banks with OK so if you're a landlord knew if your bank account leader saying you get this Secret Service for you get a reprieve. Now you have a bank account elsewhere will still provide a service for small monthly charge and if you ever decide to move your bank relationship overweight defeats that. Pretty pretty simple it's pretty cheap and it's a great product are landlords are absolutely love it love it. All right it's called see rent and the website for his www. C rent dot net. Security suffered through securities America ain't member finreg SIPC and advisory services arbiters securities America advisors think Barry Armstrong representative Armstrong advisory group in the securities America companies are unaffiliated. On top of breaking financial news I'm becoming a member of the diaries brigade plug on the financial exchange or does come and sign up today. Many view they have been approached by an alternative electricity supplier I have been approached truck and I talked about right I think he was approached by a number of occasions. We're joined now by Charlie Harris he's a senior energy attorney at the National Consumer Law Center in Boston Massachusetts joins us today that. Hopeless B win here if you will I Charlie are you. We're very very. Glad to have you aboard a day I've read the story today in the paper. As a way to find somebody can help us out but how does this whole thing work I don't have to do with deregulation of electricity supplies that. How does this competitive supply program work. Well it used to be that you could only buy everything related to electric supply from your local company let's say Boston it has been you know a dictator. Who goes so where's the wires that celebrity electricity the billing the customer service but also the actual electricity itself. No doubt you can buy the electricity separately and have it delivered by a local company. So what are my options as consumer very they capitalize Noelle. What my knee where I can buy this problem. And how to I know who's legitimate not legitimate. Well. Certainly as you could should we you'll get the phone calls aren't getting the phone calls that they urgent that you call me. So that we can discuss your electric account so I think everyone in Massachusetts has been bothered by the calls that also by people who actually. Go to work door. And the question of what to look out for a day you look out for all of these competitors suppliers because. Even the ones who were legitimate that is they're not engaging in anything. Unclear practically are dwindling frightened that a more expensive than staying with your local utility company. But the whole appeal like thought was basic you know because they're sales pitch Charlie is a will will save your money will weaken Saudi electricity for 30% less is that not true. I'm basically it's not true. We had information from Massachusetts and other states in Massachusetts. During the summer months when your local companies. Prices are lower that their ports part of it is considered its suppliers to beat that lower priced about 90% of the people who lose and they're paying more than that they're just stayed with the local. Company in the winter months when your local companies prices higher. And so it's a little easier for the competitive supplier to beat the price more than 50% of the people. Still are worse about switching and the other really important thing to know is you know barrier financial guy you know kind of upside risk in downside risk. The people win win very small amount in my state 3% or 4% to 5% the people who lose sometimes find that there will have doubled when it's which stoked. It took very risky market to be in. I would suggest is that in what are the kind of person who invest in volatile stocks if you watched. Frequently. Your should be wary of getting into the competitive supply market because it post is so what's similar. Downside risks of really being at a much worse situation. You know it's interesting you bring that up because the one of my credit cards aggregate frequent flier mileage and it was American Airlines. They solicited me. To switch to I think it was it may have been in RG I can't remember who who are the companies that are trying to sort of like how would week. Note to identify and no energy came up but are there other companies as well Charlie. Thereabouts that in theory the license companies I have to look to dispel aspect a lot of them only. Are in the commercial market that is. Selling competitors play the businesses were turns out you know hospitals and universities and industrial companies they can't save a lot of money they're part of the competitors. Market works. But they're all or most of them are on the department of public utilities web site that globe story actually peddling. The web site that anyone Google's department of public utilities the state agency that regulates utility companies. You can find I believe. All the companies in terms of who's licensed and and companies can voluntarily post their prices have for many of the companies you can also missed either current prices the problem is our networks that I don't believe you can beat. The distribution company's current price you have to call a local company whether that's National Grid or ever source or by. Or units. Okay so for those basic consumer though Charlie somebody who lives on the eighth or somebody who lives in Boston or anywhere in New England. I'd say generally speaking we're talking residents not commercial now they generally. Better off just buying it from their own utility company as opposed to going through one of these so would you 67 or seventy. This about seventy or eighty competitors supplies there's a lot of that he would have to do a lot of homework about again. Of this haven't heard yet think a lot of them just are in the commercial space I don't know of the number that are trying to stop. A two residential customers but you know we've heard probably about it doesn't they considered that with selling residential that's probably more. Yeah I've been asked that question anytime by my friends and I it. In what you wanna spend a lot of time watching that competitors suppliers prices it changes. And watching your local distribution companies price as it changes you're probably gonna wind up worse off over time you knew eight. For a six month introductory period save by percent but down the road humid like that that cost goes up significantly. Because a lot of these companies. Have a decent rate we all know that he's reached with various kinds of product that can accept much higher you can have to pay an awful lot of attention. I've really Smart consumer goods save again a small amount of money the problem is a lot of consumers. Our losing a lot of money relative to distribution supplies in in Connecticut. We're here state commission. This is good at had a aggregate the net cost to consumers in one year consumers the 43 million dollars more by switching in the because. The connect and Connecticut mark it is very similar. Two Massachusetts that is rule and I have that we would mark it as it's called on the New York the commission has tried. To ban sales along with a residential customers less the company can prove their state that has to win because so many customers were losing out. While Charlie thank you very much for your time we appreciate it reputable you're repaired at a great day YouTube Charlie Carrick viewpoint. Check yet you learned a lesson there didn't yeah I mean in general mock my rule of thumb that I have when it comes to just about anything. Utility related is I try to keep it is simple as possible just because again you eat you hear this type of thing in a lot of times he's not aware. Just because it's such a complex and intricate system that is so we get taken advantage of in situations like this will. It was a friend of my wife sue you if you came over to the house of blues made this presentation to assist guy that we should switch you know. And he just didn't jive you know it's an and then I did some research on it and it you know he didn't check out from from better business perspective. So I just do we passed on it but I was shocked. By those numbers it it always comes back to if it sounds too good to be true it probably is your dad teacher that. And my mom right up next we're talking about Tom Brady's. Well Tucker you thought this next story needed to be at the very top of the stack. And it's related to Tom Brady's Super Bowl Jersey and know both you and chopper. Quite upset over the theft of his Jersey what is the latest news on this atrocious crime. Yeah and not many forget that his super is Jersey from the Seahawks Super Bowl Super Bowl 49 was also missing in the fumble of his jerseys. It was the FBI investigation in the NFL released statement about an hour ago. Saying that there recovered both of his jerseys and looks like it was Syria a person with international. Media credentials who was posing as a media. Outlet or something and he took the jerseys but they were covered him. And those by the way don't leader's Jersey was valued at 500000 dollars by who. Chucked you know who actually value that though it was lately with. The investigators yet at I believe it was the FBI who actually came up with that number. Whom. 500 that really yearning educating annul no Weaver no no quarterbacks ever won a fifth to normalcy gotta figure that Jersey that there literally is only one of those in the world. You know people felt like laugh at this Jersey thing but it's money at the end of the day you know a lot of money like you look at it and you know everyone always talks about all the Mickey Mantle rookie card where there's like 35 or forty of them in each one now worth well you know how much those are worth I'll. Millions is that much I asked the media. I don't know off the top my head but I know it's like one of the most valuable memorabilia out there if you're go the tops in 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie card recently sold at auction for 528000. I mean how okay. Now keep in mind derelict 25 or thirty of those left. If there is one Tom Brady dangers from that Super Bowl not the only person ever win five. I would say 500000 might be conservative. So do you think chuck that he would hold on to those jerseys or will he sell them to raise money for charity that would be it would what does a guy do with them you know I don't know a lot of times for things like that usually not with Jersey but a lot of times you see things like cleats in football gloves and up in the whole fame. I don't know what he does with the Jersey I mean from my perspective. If that Wear my Jersey. I would probably either auction it off for charity or I would just keep within the family just because I'd wanna have and I certainly wouldn't want it floating out there. Just you know kind of Wear wherever. But it's. I'd I'd probably just wanna keep it right and yet lean towards port and the man gave you know truthfully yeah that's majors in Daytona that it predicts that the I a exactly. All right it's time for the rotten tomatoes report Tucker we wanna know what kind of rotten tomatoes rating. Beauty and the Beast. God because boarded it would make a lot of money yet this one actually surprise me at those get a Villa boss of a movie by couldn't have been more wrong it's at 70% which is an above average movie and it's making a killing. At the box office right now and will continue to do so going forward. Did really well overseas. As looking at the numbers coming out of China and South Korea check it killed. Yeah I mean I've I think in generalized Tucker said it seems to have gotten some pretty decent reviews. What I find interesting in this is that did you know that this was the the highest grossing march opening ever bear. Nellie did not I know that the other movie. Production facilities did not release anything this week there's very little competition. Whether I don't think anything else new got released. And they nudity they figured this was such a blockbuster. Because think about liquids eat the demographic that's gonna go to C does anybody with a young family. Pretty much and what what's interest in on where I was going with this is you know what the previous record for march opening one's I have no idea. It was last year Batman or Superman which is one of the worst reviewed movies probably in the last five or ten years that get a 166. Million on its opening and that's assault birds and now and that's it all nerds and apparently. I didn't see it but it was supposedly just completely terrible. So his march just a really good movie month truck to come out with a new movie I sat that he gave in salaries and as you said this is not a lot of competition just as most. Studios supporting it. Answering yes you what you got to basketball this weekend you do but I think for families you know this might be something where. Just to get a break from basketball maybe they go do this. But you know. I don't know it's it's typically a pretty quiet time for movies the big times that you typically see. The Memorial Day up to July 4 push is very big. And then kind of that Thanksgiving to Christmas push is really big is Wheldon of the two main. Opportunities for those temple films right. Time to give a warning war are retired listeners. The penalty for missing this April 1 deadline is no joke is this the 50% penalty in one we have to pay 50% higher than you know what what this is in and again if you are. Let's say that turned seventy last year OK seven and a half in particular what happens once you turn seventy and a half the iris requires you to start making what are called required minimum distributions. Out of your IRA. The first one they give you a little bit of a grace period up until April 1 of the following year to take if you don't take it by them. Okay you always 50% penalty on the amount. That you were supposed to withdraw so what that means let's say that your are indeed was a thousand dollars you'll penalty which is effectively attacks. Of 500. Dollars let's go back to how would. What you how badly after screw this up now has utility turned seventy and a half on June 1 a point sixteen yeah yeah that was your seventy and half. Burst that when they do it in. Sweat and the deceit he turned seventy last year yet take the money out what they do seven and a half for some I think it's mostly to make it as confusing as possible whether succeed. Because I I see people get caught by this pretty regular seats are seventy and a half in June. If that means you have until. Eight pearl to take out your first required minimum distribution correct exactly do you have to take out another one. As well in that same year so here's the big things so let's say that you say you know what I'm gonna wait I know I could have taken in 2016 I'm gonna wait until. March 31 of 2017 to do it you know is still got to take out another one in 2017 they do not give UA grace period. Once you get past that first year so and that can hurt you let them explain how back in her books one. It can cause you to pay more taxes on your Social Security if you have to take it two out in the same year. Because your taxes go up as you know when your filing your tax returns. You're tax ability of your Social Security increases with your adjusted gross income. The other thing you can do chuck is it could cause you to have to pay more money where your Medicare part B and Medicare part. Because if you meet you get to double up in that one year you could really. Pinch yourself later. Yeah exactly one question that just came in from our listeners from 603 does this include Roth IRAs know what does not it does not include rock diaries that are your own when there are no required distributions there. However if you inherit an a raw diary from someone so let's say that you had a mother father or. A spouse or not spouse about example but let's say you had someone. Passed away who you inherited their Roth IRA. You do have to take required distributions from an inherited rocked by. But not a spousal. Raw correct but from say they sold my. If my wife has the raw firing she passes away. I don't have to take any money out of that as long as I'm alive correct but if it's a mother father brother sister or something like that you will indeed have to take required once from that inherited IRA. Now be the to reduce the basic R&D that required distribution applies only to traditional diaries. We just heard from 97 neat it Tom Brady intends to auction off. In his Jersey for charity to raise money for two battled cancer that is mom as well that that what kind of makes sense junk is feast. I don't think she went to any teams last year other than two couples to marry I think it was just the Super Bowl. Numb and you know it makes a lot of sense especially you know given that a piano Brees talked about it being. You know pretty challenging year I think on the personal side largely because of that. And so it's it's not surprising that. That's what he wants to do with the money I can't confirm if it's true or not but. If that is indeed what's happening. I do think that's obviously a great thing for him to be doing. In eighteen years of college degree could cost about 500000. Dollars. Unity this is why I don't think why our generation is having kids there. No I I I gotta tell you I think the college team is up. I I think your generation is gonna say screw this will will send market to an on line to look. Will send them to a state school but I think the private college he. Will they charge 60000 bucks a year of talking a couple young parents yesterday. And they just said we're not we're not and they were they were like you guys they went to these expensive private schools. Then they say there's no way we do it no wait where are going to be at 24413. And eleven year old daughter's. I think the the top end is still gonna be able to command premium pricing you know your. Departments of the world as an example not not Harvard probably know but I do think that your top in schools are gonna still be able. To demand premium pricing just because when you do look at the average salary is coming out of them I think you warrants them. But I think you're gonna see in much greater degree of strata vacation as you used to do. Where you're not going to see second third and fourth tier schools being in the same ballpark where they've been kind of elevated to just because there's been so much money floating around for the last forty years. And what makes it stand out within this investment class. He has Lou it's the short term bond fund complicated. Something that allowed us ambassador had been talking about it especially given granted you know. Questions about the economy at that growing isn't nine in the league interest rates rising and those. And murdered on I didn't point carry less interest rate as. Isn't a reason why not that your outlook there might patently interesting discipline is run by Mary Ellen indicator that they aired. They're thick primary portfolio manager they averaged 33 years of experience they put together on the island incident that it doesn't or. Have a pretty incredible track record. Lower volatility what I think that we really like about the fund it that if you hire quality and and that in order to combined category. Where even you have her maturity funds and not much time in order anything in and out of the portfolio air quality at a little more conservative. And that even within that category that particular buy and carry it a little bit let's get straight rent and it. Here and that's what point nine. Period is less than the points leader in the category which. In the current environment if you're really hit about volatility that could be. A very characteristic. Every match that this obviously is somewhat of a hedge against interest rate interest rate risk is wells being made at the very high quality bonds. I'm assuming that you have to sacrifice someone in yield in order to move into those safer bonds. Good news though in the if I were asking you know but he is in third in intermediate look like a core portfolio. Is worried about interest rates and barely can I can. We can't tell the funds that you and he were to come by and I wouldn't necessarily say these but if you're someone. You found it really really concerned about volatile volatility into straight rent and you have a little bit of money that you want it back to your interest and short term bond fund into the next one option. Amber what are expenses on this fund what does it cost for someone to own. I help well toward the end it hit Algiers armed with an incredibly liberating the the at the retail shares that they keep I think the point that it below average. Defense quality. You know her apartment there attackers the lower volatility and you're really getting it and at the point com. What are the off fund minimums for each of those share classes. I believe that for after the incident about 25004. At every guilty of the 500. OK and there's no while front or back and I'll loads or anything like that that. Very good memory thank you very much of the time today. Emery zinc for Morningstar the fund that we were talking about is the bear short term bond fund ticker on the institutional class there is BS VE. I axe. No Puerto Rican bonds that fund I know I would imagine I'm looking at what they alone and it largely is you know a lot of high quality either beer treasuries high quality corporates. It's it. Leo's is very stable there but obviously you do give up a little bit yield but it tends to be a very consistent. Perform with not a lot of volatility. There's Puerto Rico's back in the news he'd be here it's and it's a story we're gonna cover in the next hour but. The air have a real challenges he's here they're not making payments. So that some of their debt obligations. The pensioners by I'm dying to see what happens it's going to be very unfortunate to watch that. You'd see pension obligations being defaulted on with the in comfortable with in months in I believe there they're asking the US to get involved trying to square this away now correct. They are but the US is saying no thanks literature during your senior US doesn't want anything to do with that. With a it's so much money yeah he did that you know the US does want to write the check and it's not a state to its territory that they have lesser obligations in this particular instance. They are asking. Puerto Rico's asking for help. I don't think the help is on the way and that that's what's gonna cause the pension obligations to the default is just the moment. Their license for all types of insurance and continued time stress the money we just one phone call and one relationship. To exchange and we're talking about interest rates we are of the opinion that interest rates are going to rise two or three times during calendar year 27 team the big question is chuck why is the Federal Reserve increasing the federal funds rate now. Yet the big reason why the Fed bumps up that federal funds rate. Is because they feel the economy is on pretty stable footing and they simply want to make sure that inflation. Doesn't get out of control of there's too much money floating around. In the economy so what they do is they raise that federal funds rate and it has two effects one it makes borrowing a little bit more expensive. It also raises the amount that people were able to get on things like CDs and savings accounts helping them to keep money in the bank instead of spending it. So would we talked about how housing. Is hot in prices are rising in young people millennial they're getting priced out of the housing market people can't afford to buy a house to house because prices are rising too fast with the Fed take that into consideration when they're looking at raising interest rates they would housing does factory and all there inflation metrics that they look at. And so is definitely something that factors in and what you see there is that as rates and the rising mortgage rates go up to makes a little bit more challenging to buy a home OK so rising mortgage rates would actually depressed housing prices good to know. The casinos are on their way and which ones are Meyer referring to weld got one under construction in Everett Massachusetts. And you've got another one under construction. In Springfield mass and I think there's already an existing casino somewhere in Maine and I know there's two in Connecticut you've got foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Proud to say I've never. And either one foxwoods or Mohegan Sun but they're pretty nice birthday Turkey that. I've never been Mohegan Sun actually believe it or not. OK I have so I used to go to foxwoods on a pretty regular basis in my early twenties but never really spent much time Mohegan. But I've probably have been the foxwoods now in. Three maybe four years. At the other guy a little while by the way it's it struck can carry with you here you're just joining us and aid be it the reason I bring it up is. I see the amount of money that's being spent in Springfield we had the that president of that casino join us on the show and we you you must see what's going on an effort truck I mean that's not only up from where you live in the cranes are up everything's moving. The ethnic there's two or 3000 people working on that ever casino and I think there's six or 700 working on the Springfield casino as we speak these are guys. Foot feet underground hidden and they're working. You look at it in and I look at this numbers coming out of foxwoods and Mohegan. Eight they're slot threatening just continues to erode and it's been eroding jock for years before. You get these two new casinos. Yeah I think these guys are in an awful lot of trouble once you get these new casinos because again I'm someone who. Again as as 24 year old I would drive you know hour and a half two hours down to foxwoods on the Saturday. I would spend 45 hours there might stay over there might be a grip was the right group that if we didn't do too well. And and pretty much your account activity in the copier that is or yeah I've played enough that I'd I'd and paper rooms burial often. Oak but effectively. You know again I was doing that not so much because I wanted to drive two hours but because there wasn't another option now I don't. Again I don't go to casinos nearly as much as die as they used to. Never go for the entertainment did you ever go because there was band wanted to see here boxing mattress and what did you vote just to gamble once or twice we would kind of coordinate things if there was as you said you know band that was there something like that. Yeah but I'll tell you if there if the place in Everett. Existed back when I was 22 or 23 years old. I probably wouldn't have driven all the way to Connecticut. You know. People often ask me how do you feel about the casinos and up somewhat ambivalent about it I didn't vote against them when we had the opportunity in my attitude was. You know he beat people are gonna go to casinos and you know if you go to foxwoods or Mohegan Sun. More than 50% of the license plates in those parking lots chuck are Massachusetts license plates dipped so my attitude on it is. That's kind of like marijuana very emotional keep the money at home. Now that a lot of that money to your point will be spent an effort a lot of the New Hampshire money's gonna go to effort. And I think a lot of the Vermont money it rather than go and Mohegan Sun I think that Vermont people are gonna go to Springfield they just did. It's a natural in the Springfield casino both casinos are going to be pretty nice Springfield. And effort are going to be pretty nice I think Everett's got the exit hoping to put more money and a. For if they are putting more money and Everton win is typically a little bit higher quality property is what you typically here. But they're both finish GM that yell Windiz typically wreck well I don't know how I'm here with. Eight when I go to I've been to Vegas and GM's that's nice properties on there I'm not saying they're not nice on this thing and win when you when you think about it typically is thought it was kind of like the cream of the crop and and Tim while still a phenomenal Brandon phenomenal experience. I think is typically it's kind of like one a and one B almost. Com but. I will say I think both of those are gonna do very well I do think the beat Connecticut plays when we start looking. You know out in 2019 and 20/20 once both of these places are up and operating for full years in Massachusetts. I I have some real fears about what foxwoods Mohegan are gonna look like. You become a senior citizen facilities hi I nursing home alternative converted into nursing homes you're gonna be able to get some deals there. We get deals now can't you can't I mean that yeah they're they're. Diane in and then if so dumb they're gonna build another one in Hartford you know I just. Feeding the addiction. 88 the the best thing you can do as a relates to a casino folks is not go. And if you're gonna go go watch a show go have dinner yet but don't gamble he'd be the odds are stacked against you. The I don't know you know the numbers that night but I mean these casinos make a lot of money again yep it's in every single game that they have. Is pretty much every game that you're playing against the casino is tilted at least. Two to 3% away for me sometimes a lot steeper than that. Lobster praising China sets record for US crustacean imports. This is a great story for those of you who live on the coastal areas you know you're in Rhode Island if you're in Connecticut if you're it and in Maine in particular against Maine is really become the law mr. capital of not only New England but really the globe trek I mean Maine lobster is going. To South Korea it's going to China it's going to Europe everybody wants mean. New England lost 'cause the best lobster in the world. There's there's nothing else like. Well Nova Scotia wooden did you know we would would be would argue that one. You know they gave their depravity because that is where the competition comfort scanner there Canadian Canada has some pretty. You know look we can do lobster cook off this summer something like that but as you said American lobster in China is growing at a absolutely ridiculous rate back in 2010. Now okay hard 2010 there really wasn't a lot of American lobster in China. 20107. Point four million dollars in sales in 2014. Up to ninety million in last year China imported more than a 108 million sew up an additional 20% last year. In terms of lobster imports coming from America. And it just continues to be booming fourteen million pounds of lobster exported from the US to China in twenty fifteen. And gates it it's expensive to get there if you had a flight they're trying to get live lobster over yeah it's it's not easy yet it's it's become. A real popular item because the middle class the emerging middle class in China it's a status symbol is given dinner party. And you circle lobster that's a really big deal he tried but that you know what. It's kind of a big deal here right that we thought we are generally have a we have baby is in the summer you might have wondered to clamp right because it's expensive you'll get a vital lobsters you know it's it's a big deal. But it's great for the fisherman but it does mean chucked that we're probably gonna spend a little more lobster rolls them. Yeah I mean that the demand continues to be very very strong. And we've also talked a little bit about how while some of the areas that are in southern New England. I know while Rhode Island struggled a little bit with its lobster catch I believe just because they they're restricted today yup they'll tell you that if you talk to the fishermen of you know this play out there. But you're not allowed to problem because that being mean it's something. A few years ago where you're not allowed to harvest. Guesses the females yup you know. Log harvest yup I U Massachusetts and Rhode Island and Connecticut did not do that so they are suffering from crop perspective. And then the other theory is. The water is cooler. In pain and that's why you're getting better catches I don't know. We I'm not a fisherman's body I'm just telling what people tell me. He did the cool waters while they're getting more and I mean yeah yeah so. The sixth highest paying medical jobs in America not a lot of surprises on your nurse practitioner making a 104000. Base salary. Now I know a lot of nurses track. That are Macon 15060000. Bucks a year because they're working one or two extra shifts every dip BC quite a bit of that and so obviously this median salary. You know I think lower than a much lower than what you can make on the top end their I've even seen some making you kind of in that 175 to 200 range of those traveling nurses because I know they're very well paid if you are pure there are ending you're willing to go to. You know some pretty funky places for four months they'll pay a lot of money is similar to that it's people who were based. In locations that are tend to be very rural in in the states actually. And so what you see is that in order to get people out there they have to pay a lot higher still might be rural Montana or something like that. Where there's not a ton of training that goes on the air so they can't locally sourced nurses so they have to entice people from the coast to go there pretty much they say look. Will pay a ton of money your cost of living is gonna be low. And then you can work here for five or ten years ago back to wherever you you know wanna go after that with a big drug chain. Wanna be a physician assistants they've made a median base pay a 1121000. Dollars is that there's thirteen thousand job openings for PA's. 121000 job openings for nurse practitioners pharmacists. Make 125000. Dollars a year with the home the 5500 jobs available right now today if your pharmacist at 55 open. 5500 open positions. Medical science liaison I'm not venture with that is you know Dennis. I'm told and this is what it says here that they communicate to the public the scientific benefits of medical product so. I don't know I would dispute that one as a pharmacy manager 149000. Dollars a year over 2000. Those jobs available in and position. The average median base pay for physician is 187000. Dollars a year. And there are 7700. Job openings right now and it obviously. Those until significantly higher as well. I don't know if you heard the news. Last week but Tucker had built like your way. Well as promised we're joined by Kate Taylor from business insider to talk about Starbucks like eight RU. I them. Good so Kate we're hearing that Starbucks. Which Tucker is really quite enthusiastic about he uses that online app that you reference in your article regularly. But there have been problems people are not happy with Starbucks and their service these days. So I am also a user and they don't look quite frequently end January start I reported. You can actually got 2% in part because the issues. Ordering lag carrying. I could be kinda out its story Erica chilling opening ordered that aren't so. Taking longer you know get el Al iPad definitely. Had our backs. And kind of see how that clean out here and now. And now Sarah Kate Dickey go to different Starbucks and it goes go to the same one. I only think that they lion I mean legal action there's one Amex that I know is typically pretty busy that I have plan at work everywhere. He I went to bat on a day while he can see it and then went belly and. Where and how much lead time did you give them before like when you placed ordered him five minutes at like what are you supposed to. So for this occasion when you on the wall and out it that your order will be ready in I. And as it got to Turkey locations are more than I can play all. Regularly if he can now be ready Andrea tightness in my apartment to weigh on you. So they can have great. Guidelines that in order open so I get couple minutes late but in order and there and end up leading ten minutes instead of street I've. Is that ten minutes longer than you would have waited if you just got in line and didn't pre order. I did get in an article and that took. About ten minutes as well so it was something I realize instead of the time I went ahead and dip being on the attack. So with that with this Starbucks how what is the response on the part of the corporation to this service brought because that's gonna cost them customers. Yet that the credit they have not been an issue and I think a lot of you so. And that is. Having an area cute lecturing and get ready and that cost aren't there yet. That is calling out a Britney and over and over an adventure. Many panicked customers are very familiar as. Other issues that. Had. Me looking for it differently have more accurate. And a crime and then when nick and they're ready and look a little tiny story ill. How. That they're not that much overlap between the lack into the toward people who are going out this kind of cute pepper and empire and. As the company alluded to the impact this might have on same store sales because you know as a business reporter. That's how the market evaluates company like saarc Starbucks they wanna see okay. How much coffee did you sell in march of 2017. In that store that you go to eight compared to a year ago. They haven't said that a lot quieter. Out Intersil think they didn't increase as much. As Everett had hoped and part of that is because of she went mobile and I especially high traffic occasion. Though it can impact yeah. They are in Leo I'm so because of that they are really kind of trade deal with the quickly before. It becomes the bigger issue. Because they're they're premium brand do you pay it would you paper cup of coffee here we go. I say I am someone. You gain more than a dollar for a lot K easily. Can carry you explain or account weary and they are a lot and. I was I was gonna ask you because at McDonald's is now giving the mobile operator tried the McDonald's more avocation. I have not tried there yet but they are really investing in mobile app and I think it was. About eight and have been a leader Starbucks has been. I have the game though big illuminating. Issue that maybe every at bat mobile app you look at. Where at every group has its own mobile app they need to be careful not to ask people the team issue on the island a couple years. Eric is Starbucks has gotten beat they're up to I think 20% of the orders. Our mobile. Yeah. Do you iron in some Erekat a 20% I think it's gloomy. 20% of he made it through the app and then if we sent of people are they ordering at a time and then peek at the. Well date thank you very much for your time and thanks for your good work on the story appreciate it and it. So Tucker still. Are you going to go to McDonald's Mikey and switch your allegiance from Starbucks to McDonald's. Change it up once in awhile. You know I'll see how the McDonald's ordering system is back Libya homework assignment for me this week but I'm chuck you missed out on that. Yet and I know I know this is pay. Pay McDonald's global but he you're gonna. Year you'd think about this John when your driving up 128. To go to your Bedford office right you can. Order if you leave in the parking lot let's stop and pick up your mobile order for McDonald's yeah you'll you'll be in heaven. I don't like McDonald's LIC. I'll just go for the coffee shall hold wrestler right there. I loved it right annually but. Label it will be our fifth. This takes the fifth he gets a soulful currently you got me there. They use. At a height do that would I'm a person gets to do that with a straight face what's radios and I don't have to guard. That's what got got got got an important extremely to gently use as a full blown. Are at night week we need to get back to this duke basketball story we do. Because Tucker and I were kind of get yourself Woodward and show prep I was wondering why this the only game were covering. Yep well we just thought it would be appropriate given your affinity in your father's affinity towards you why do you care you can go to do. I mean I've pretty much grew up just watching late my first memory is watching duke basketball. Your first memories my first memories watching the duke Kentucky game in 1991. When I've 91 season but yeah. That's that is my first memory. Is watching that game which by the way is you pretty much unanimously regarded as the best college basketball game ever played Lleyton and yet that turned. So they lost to South Carolina they did. They're out there on a guy who will speak got knocked out Villanova notebook. Nova went down hill and bill when we go and you saw. You saw some pretty high seeds go down but Arizona they stolen and they are Arizona's viking Tucker rev Wright told you lastly I picked Arizona certainly doesn't. I didn't write that down my body you know. Arizona is still kicking a mean you talk about the favor of release team would about Moody's to witness Wichita lost two Kentucky. On yesterday yes so Hoosier team Tucker. I picked North Carolina. They still they are getting buried they're sitting pretty right now they've got a match against Baltimore and then the winner of UCLA Kentucky if they Wentz that's actually. That brackets and pretty decent shape over there. Big east was just absolutely shredded. There's almost no one left their side from Baylor pretty much. I think that Kansas team in the midwest is pretty soft I think organ probably comes out of there. And then taking a look at the west I think it's gonna begins agony Arizona either one of those teams comes out I think they're both very good teams coming out of the last. Very well that's all you need to know. The turn and then went the next games played Thursday third Friday that Thursday Fridays the next round the Friday Saturday when Europe are France are Sunday Saturday Sunday and then those winners go on to the final four. So do I get a prize or anything terrorism to win this thing Tucker I'll buy McDonald's. Financial exchange teacher okay. Good with all the wounded on both sides. Extra like. It did too many trips to McDonald's effort from their mobile. Beth effect. The bidding process. For the US border wall construction begins because there's seventy companies that are bidding on this I was trying to that you and I saw the headline tour the first thing I thought OK with. How to wipe buy stock in these guys somebody's gonna ultimately this is what twenty billion dollar order. Potentially higher than that actually on some of the projections that seniors ties thirty billion. But money. Yet it's the it's big money here and obviously these up proposals. Are being taken at the moment they were requested on Friday night. And so they are continuing to make the push to try to get these beads in. Even though they have yet to finalize anything as far as designer budgeting and so forth. Still working on those side of things but they are going. Trying to get four billion dollars approved this year I believe. To begin construction on the wall wouldn't completed obviously that's where they're trying to go with the most recent budget. That you have put out next Wednesday tapped by putting your bid on. I've I'm not very good with walls it's not really especially if your offense got. I'm I'm not agree with fences either are more you know small projects are not really built for you know long distance project is not what I'd do. There's talk you are a lot. So I saw this story about. One gig of Internet coming to the Boston area. And I realized I don't really know what one gig means. In terms of I wanna be shocked by it in terms of speed. Leah I would is it good or bad. So one Gigabit speed is not outstanding and it's frankly probably more than most people need in general. The rule of thumb is you can probably get by with somewhere between the five and fifteen megabit per second. In order to stream BO one not screened a video so let's say that you have. Four screens that you want streaming your house he got a few kids who were always streaming in your streaming is well. Mean your phone because he couldn't. Theoretically you could have four people streaming video on their phones and yet the TV on Netflix desolate city you got you know five streams that are going at once. You can probably make a case that you can get by anywhere from 75 to all hundred. Megabit per second okay. In each Gigabit. There are thousand megabytes. Okay so unless you're planning on its you know streaming in you know 25 or thirty different streams at one time. It doesn't put a huge it's probably overkill to be honest. If you do a ton of let's say that you're pushing out live video a ton you've got multiple streams going out in this and that. Maybe it makes some sense there but I think one Gigabit it's. I'll price on this is really good looking guys if it's Comcast rcn. We'll rcn yep and it's what seventy bucks a month yet so it's it's going to be seventy a month Comcast offers one but I think it's it's significantly more expensive in this. On the other ones that he is looking at you know other companies that offer this rate well here it is. The standard race Comcast. As I didn't make it 300 bucks a month rehab opens a month yeah so cool. Who would pay for this struck in their home what would be the he possessed this isn't a commercial package right this is residential this is. Residential I'm not really sure who needs this in adulthood. I knew that you would give you is what I'd best Internet possible and if you let's say that you just download movies a lot let's say you're traveling on is ahead just wanna be able to fire up my Kindle download bunch movies right away go. It it'll move quickly obviously. I just don't know the average person needs it but. Again if it's 6999. A month okay and I'm taking a look at the other rcn packages and I believe the other ones. If you want I'm just pulling them up to so that we have a point of comparison here okay. So let's say that you want Internet. At a 155. Megabit per second about 15% of the speed it's fifty a month. Compared to seventy so it saves you 250 bucks a year for something that really most and we won't use Luka. It's is kind of a push because again it's not overly expensive but I always tend to kinda. Try to is you know what I buy right but does it help with you your Wi-Fi connection throughout the house at all liquidity do you view. A broader. A race from your router no I got a router no that is purely the router and the other thing just doesn't include probably more expensive router that's needed is well. And so not at about as big deal is the headline would easily they argue that Turkey's still upset with folks like him. In terms of the mission stuff. Year ago he said he never buy books way your it still won't you know he's so now this flavor of the guitars out there. Well we're we're going to be talking about books like a I think this is new model but I'm not sure it's called the Volkswagen is atlas is a new model or tea. And once a week we are joined by Tim Stevens from CNET road show and we're gonna review this car so if you're in them. And business of buying a new car you're in the market to buy new car.
