Kuhner’s Corner - The Shadow Government’s War on Trump
By Jeffrey T. Kuhner
According to the U.S. intelligence community, it’s unanimous: Russia hacked the election. Last week, our intelligence agencies—led by the CIA—released their declassified report. It concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the systematic hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s email system, as well as Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails. The report states that Putin’s objective was to undermine our democracy and help Hillary be defeated.
In other words, the never-Trumpers seized on the report to enshrine their “fake news” narrative: Russia stole the election from Hillary to get Trump elected, ensuring that the Kremlin’s “puppet” be installed in the White House. Reminiscent of a James Bond film, it’s the latest crazed conspiracy being peddled inside the Beltway. The only difference is that Putin is not Dr. No, but Dr. Nyet—a madman bent on attacking every segment of American society (including our electric grid).
Leave aside that Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks that published the leaked emails, adamantly denies any Russian involvement. What is remarkable is how the political and media establishment are determined to blindly parrot the report’s findings. Yet, this begs the question: Where is the evidence? Answer: There is none. Instead of presenting compelling, irrefutable proof of Russian hacking, and the Kremlin’s direct involvement, the intelligence community essentially wants the American public to take their word for it. In short, they want us to trust them.
We shouldn’t. In a constitutional democracy, it is imperative that the media be skeptical of the claims of the intelligence community—especially, when it has major geopolitical consequences such as reviving a potential Cold War with Russia. The truth is our intelligence agencies have a long, sordid history of putting out false information to further an administration’s political agenda.
In 1964, the CIA claimed the United States was attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin. The administration of Lyndon B. Johnson used it to justify the Vietnam War. There was only one problem: Our intelligence community lied. It was pure propaganda to rationalize LBJ’s desire to send American boys to fight in Southeast Asia. The result was a military quagmire and nearly 60,000 U.S. soldiers dead.
Under President George W. Bush, the CIA claimed that Iraq’s Saddam Hussein possessed “stockpiles” of weapons of mass destruction. Then-CIA Director George Tenet said the intelligence regarding Iraq’s WMD was so ironclad it was a “slam dunk.” He lied. The WMD were never found. The Iraq war cost America over a $1 trillion. It resulted in over 4,000 U.S. troops killed and nearly 35,000 injured or maimed.
In 2013, President Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, lied under oath in testimony to the Senate about the NSA’s mass surveillance program. The Obama regime erected a national surveillance state—grossly violating the privacy and civil rights of millions of ordinary Americans—and Clapper committed perjury to cover it up. Instead of holding the DNI accountable, the liberal media continues to lionize him. Clapper, however, belongs in prison.
Moreover, Obama has repeatedly politicized the intelligence community to advance his agenda—Benghazi; calling ISIS the “JV team” while pressuring intelligence officials to manufacture bogus reports downplaying the spread of the Islamic State; and the 2011 National Intelligence Estimate (falsely) claiming that Iran does not have or seek a nuclear weapons program. The Russian hacking allegations are simply part of a larger pattern of lies, falsehoods and mendacity that have characterized the Obama presidency.
The establishment desperately seeks to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidency. The myth that Putin “stole” the election serves one fundamental purpose: To delegitimize Trump’s victory. His stunning win represented a repudiation not only of Obama’s America but our corrupt, venal ruling class. Now, the Beltway Empire hopes to strike back, crippling Trump’s administration from the outset by tainting him with the air of illegitimacy.
And the intelligence community—the so-called “shadow government”—is the weapon our elites are using to bleed Trump’s moral authority and political credibility. Upon assuming office, he needs to fight back. Trump must call for a sweeping reform of our intelligence agencies, especially the CIA, which needs to be purged and de-politicized. Otherwise, if he doesn’t our shadow government will continue its ceaseless war to bring him down.
