A Lowell neighborhood is in shock this morning after a seven year old boy entered a fenced in yard and was mauled to death by two pitbulls.

Late on Saturday afternoon, the boy entered a yard on Clare St which was housing a pair of pitbulls. A group of neighbors heard the commotion and attempted to help the child but were unable to enter the yard. Eventually one of the dogs escaped the yard and was shot. The other dog was caught by animal control and in being held.

22 year old David Swiniarski, whose roommate called 911 to report what was going on, was quoted as saying “He was already gone as soon as we got there. No one knew what to do — probably 15 people just watching it happen ... just screaming,”

It's still unclear how the boy go into the yard. The dogs owners claim that they are emotional support dogs that were often taunted by the neighborhood children. They also say that they repeatedly warned kids to stay out of their yard.
