John Heilemann, co-author of Game Change, explains why the presidential debate is critical.

... if he walks out of that debate on Wednesday night with the world having concluded that this race is over, it is exactly the case that some Republicans... the money...  will say you're Bob Dole we're going to focus on the House and the Senate...

In an ad reminiscent of the John McCain attacks on Senator Obama's celebrity, American Crossroads goes after the president for focusing on being 'eye-candy,' even while our Ambassador is the victim of a terrorist attack in Libya.

But what did Pesident Obama do on the same day that US citizens were attacked by terrorists? He campaigned in Las Vegas...

Here are a couple of the McCain ads from '08.

Paul Ryan laughs when asked if there's bias in the way the media covers Republicans.

There's an irony in the presidential race says GOP consultant Matthew Dowd. Mitt Romney wanted to make the election a referendum on the president, but it's turned into a referendum on Mitt.

But the biggest change that's happened in this is Mitt Romney wanted this to be a referendum election. And the problem is it became a referendum, not on Barack Obama, it became a referendum on him.

Dowd also says the race is tighter than polls are making it seem.

And if Mitt Romney has a good four or five days, these fix- or six-point leads will dwindle down to about a two-point race. It's still an advantage for a Barack Obama, but a two-point race.

At that point in time, that's when all of those other environmental factors -- the unemployment rate being above 8 percent, the wrong track number being what it is, and people's view of their income -- all begin to take place in this.

The Romney campaign has committed political malpractice for having sat around and done nothing all summer says GOP consultant Matthew Dowd.

... they left the playing field totally to... the Obama campaign... and basically set the tone for the final 60 days of this campaign... and now they're behind and the prism through which voters view this is negative for Mitt Romney.

It doesn't matter how well Mitt Romney does in the debates, thinks Howard Dean, because Mitt Romney has a Jimmy Carter problem.

The real reason Mitt Romney probably isn't going to win this election... When you ask the question does this candidate care about people like me there's nearly a 40 point gap... Mitt Romney cannot connect...

A video timeline from Fox shows how President Obama plays the American people. The administration presents a sometimes accurate picture of what's going on in Libya, while the president twists things to benefit his reelection.

Here's what happened. You had a video that was released... making fun of the Prophet Mohammed.. but what also happened is extremists and terrorists used this as an excuse to attack a variety of our embassies including the consulate in Libya...

Jay Leno on wasted time.

For example, we waste seven minutes in line every time we go to get coffee, 28 minutes going through airport security...

Count Charles among those who aren't buying the GOP spin that the Romney campaign is doing much better than polls are indicating.

... you get a fairly small margin of error if you add up all the numbers, so I think they're probably reflecting reality, unfortunately.
