Worst Year Yet in Afghanistan

Deadliest year yet in Afghanistan. Analysis on CNN.

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the security situation in Afghanistan has shown marked deterioration despite the surge of 30,000 U.S. troops this year.

The Journal based its report on two confidential United Nations maps that U.N. personnel use to gauge the dangers of travel and running programs in the country. The first map showed the situation in March at the start of the annual fighting season. The second map measured the situation again in October, near the end of the season.
