State of the Meltdown

I've gotten too old, I suppose, to take this seriously. Tim Geithner, the nervous prep school boy who was given the most important position in the government at this moment, is twitching into the chamber.
Now, I know there are some in this chamber and watching at home who are skeptical of whether this plan will work. And I understand that skepticism. Here in Washington, we've all seen how quickly good intentions can turn into broken promises and wasteful spending. And with a plan of this scale comes enormous responsibility to get it right.
Which is why the first terrible mistake of the Obama presidency, Super Joe Biden, plays such a vital role.Never had a doubt in the beginning Never a doubt Trusted you true in the beginning I loved you right through
And that's why I've asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort -- because nobody messes with Joe. (Applause.) I -- isn't that right? They don't mess with you.
You made me promises, promises Knowing I'd believe Promises, promises You knew you'd never keepIs it time to shoot hoops?
In the next few days, I will submit a budget to Congress. So often, we've come to view these documents as simply numbers on a page or a laundry list of programs. I see this document differently. I see it as a vision for America -- as a blueprint for our future. What is that vision?
Fix the banks, fix the recession, save the schools, provide free health care, get us off of foreign oil and require of every American that they get a year, at least, of higher education on the government dime if you pick up some trash in the neighborhood. And require of parents that they take care of their kids.Second time around, I'm still believing The words that you said You said you'd always be here And love forever still repeats in my head
There is, of course, another responsibility we have to our children. And that's the responsibility to ensure that we do not pass on to them a debt they cannot pay. (Applause.) That is critical.
What are the chances of that?On and on we laughed like kids At all the silly things we did But you can't finish what you start If this is love it breaks my heart
Many worthy goals were presented last night, entered into with a confidence that everything a big spending liberal wants can be accomplished during a devastating recession that this government appears completely unprepared to deal with. You made me promises, promises Knowing I'd believe Promises, promises You knew you'd never keep
