So Much For Rick Perry

Is Rick Perry serious? He's going to run for the GOP nomination and he supported in-state tuition for illegals!

While Texas Governor Rick Perry has a reputation as a strong conservative, his more moderate views on immigration reform might help Republicans attract Latino voters if he were to be the Republican nominee in November of 2012.

“We must say to every child learning in a Texas classroom, ‘We don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there,’” said Perry about the bill.

It might help him in the general election, but how's he get the nomination?

In 2010, after Arizona passed an immigration reform bill that was praised by many Republicans, Perry was critical of the new law and said he would not support similar legislation in Texas, stating, “It would not be the right direction for Texas.”

Rick Perry did support "sanctuary cities" pro-border security legislation, but that was recently - perhaps done to enhance his position for a presidential run.

Sanctuary cities legislation was named an emergency item by Gov. Rick Perry at the start of the regular legislative session. When the legislation failed to make it out of the Senate, Perry added the issue to the call for the special session. Under the legislation, municipalities would have been financially penalized if they had tried to stop their police officers from carrying out federal immigration policy.

This doesn't smell good.
