Smell the Voters
NOTE: In a shocker, the Massachusetts senate suddenly woke up and smelled the voters Thursday, passing legislation to crack down on freebies for illegals just one day after passing a watered down measure. Details at the end of this post.
Why was President Calderon in the United States last week? Because so many of his voters live here, and so much of Mexico's GDP arrives via US Mail.
President Barack Obama's Democratic allies in the Senate have repelled a move by presidential rival John McCain to send an additional 6,000 National Guard troops to the U.S-Mexico border. Why do Democrats ignore the best interests of the nation, and popular opinion, in order to pander to illegal immigrant sympathizers? Because they're trying to make Calderon voters their voters.
The Arizona Republican says the security situation along the order has deteriorated so badly that 3,000 guard troops are needed just to help protect his state. But McCain failed to muster the required 60 votes for his plan as the Senate continued debate on an a war funding bill.In Massachusetts, voters support a measure to block illegals from getting state benefits. The legislature sells out the people. The house defeated the legislation under pressure from leadership, and the senate yesterday passed a weakened version.
A Suffolk University/7 News poll released last night found that 84 percent of the voters want a measure requiring proof of citizenship for state services. The Democrats get their voters through bribery - they pay off public employees with unreasonable benefits and inflated salaries, they subsidized urban governments and put residents on the dole, and they offer inappropriate enticements to foreigners to move here and become Democratic voters.
Senate Democrats said they opposed a requirement that recipients of services show an affidavit or driver’s license, saying it would cost state agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars each and would limit access for older residents who lack a license and may have trouble getting an affidavit.Democrats obviously don't care about the financial cost of doing the right thing, they fear the political cost of doing the right thing. Because they put the Calderon vote first. UPDATE - The Massachusetts senate got scared (which is when they do their best work) today (Thursday), and abruptly changed course!
With one lawmaker citing President Lincoln's respect for the rule of law, the Massachusetts Senate passed a far-reaching crackdown this afternoon on illegal immigrants and those who would hire them, going further, senators said, than any immigration bill proposed over the past five years. In a surprising turn of events, the legislation replaced a narrower bill that was passed Wednesday over the objections of Republicans. The people do have a chance when they stand up for America - even against Democrats.
