Racist New York Times Forgets Whoopi
Whoopi Goldberg is upset that the paper of record got it wrong on Sunday when they left her off a list of Black Academy Award winners. Whoopi's 50 films weren't enough to keep her top of mind.
Nine years ago, when Denzel Washington and Halle Berry won his and her Oscars — he was only the second African-American man to win best actor, and she was the first African-American woman to win best actress — each took a moment to look back at the performers from earlier generations who had struggled against prejudice and fought to claim the recognition too often denied them.
Wait a sec - Halle was the first? How about Whoopi's 1981 win for Ghost?
"When you win an Academy Award, that's part of what you've done, your legacy. I will always be Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg, and (I) have been dismissed and erased by the New York Times film critics, who should know better.
Barbara Walters mentioned being "troubled" by Goldberg's omission Monday on "The View," and Goldberg admitted "it hurt me terribly." She also whipped out her Oscar.
These guys are paid to watch movies, and they can't get Black Oscar winners right.
