PO'd Over PO
The Left isn't done with its Health Care suicide attempt. House Democrats - 128 of them - are pushing the Public Option once again, and Harry Reid says he knows one will be passed.
"We're going to have a public option," Reid said. "It's just a question of when."
The Democrats aren't eager to be admitting to their socialist agenda so close to fall elections that figure to be their undoing, but the radical website the Daily Kos held its annual Netroots convention last week. Netroots is the heart of the Democratic Party today, and elected officials of the left can't afford to ignore them, no matter how out of step with voters they may be.
Reid's general comments reflected the same overall message to progressives that President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered earlier today. It essentially boils down to: We've done a lot of stuff, but we still have a lot of unfinished business, so campaign for us again.
The big fear for the country will be what happens after the liberal majorities get ravaged in November. Will they use the lame duck session before the new, more conservative congress is sworn in, to pound through the Public Option?
It’s interesting to see how Europe now realizes it cannot afford a cradle-to-grave welfare state, while we in the United States seem to believe that such a state ought to be our destiny. What makes us think that we will be able to afford for the long term what Europe increasingly cannot?
