The level of lying the president has engaged in personally to coverup what happened in the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens has been nothing short of vulgar. But now it goes to another level as we learn that there never was a protest outside the consulate in Benghazi.

The State Department said Tuesday that it never concluded the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, raising further questions about why the Obama administration used that explanation for more than a week after assailants killed the US ambassador and three other Americans.

"That was not our conclusion," an official said. They said it was instead a co-ordinated assault involving several groups of men armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades over an expanse of more than a mile. "

There was no actionable intelligence of any planned or imminent attack," a top state department official said.

The Big Bird ad that the Obama campaign is running makes it seem that they're trying to hard to make it seem like the president's debate humiliation is being taken in stride, but methinks they doth protest too much. So does Chuck Todd.

Charles Krauthammer is surprised by the excuses being offered for the president's poor performance in last week's debate, but he's pleased by the improvement Romney's showing in the polls.

Romney, among all the voters who are extremely likely to vote, is up by 6, and three weeks ago he was down by 3... so, I think right now the race is tied, with Romney still having some of the momentum... and I think the rest of this will be determined by the remaining debates...

In a huge swing since their last survey, Mitt Romney now leads by 4 points among likely voters in the new Pew poll, which was taken in the 4 days following the debate.

In turn, Romney has drawn even with Obama in the presidential race among registered voters (46% to 46%) after trailing by nine points (42% to 51%) in September.

Among likely voters, Romney holds a slight 49% to 45% edge over Obama. He trailed by eight points among likely voters last month.

Matthews seems to be confused about Gallup. Their presidential tracking poll runs for 7 days. Romney is leading in the days since the debate.

The GOP is hitting John Tierney on his attempts to kill conversation about the Tierney Crime Family. The ad uses a not so subtle gambling theme.

It's sad to see how bad some candidates are in debates around the country. Here's the Nebraska US Senate race, where Republican Deb Fischer is the pathetic performer in this clip. She's up against Bob Kerrey, a former governor who spent two terms in the senate before retiring. He's been losing the race to Fischer, largely because he's lived in New York City for the past decade running a college called the New School. Jump a minute in to skip intro.

Fischer leads by double digits in the most recent poll, but it's been a few weeks.
