Over, Maybe

The oil has stopped flowing into the Gulf as BP has begun integrity tests on the new cap. It will take up to a couple of days, they say, to know if the fix will hold.

BP PLC said Thursday it began a crucial test in the Gulf of Mexico to determine if a new containment cap and the steel casing of the leaking well can withstand the full force of the oil rushing up to the seabed without rupturing. "Although it cannot be assured, it is expected that no oil will be released to the ocean during the test," it added. "Even if no oil is released during the test, this will not be an indication that oil and gas flow from the wellbore has been permanently stopped."
