Could somebody please give Barney a bullet?
Factcheck argues that the ad, which features Andy Griffith reassuring seniors about Medicare and will air with taxpayer dollars, is misleading, because Griffith states that, "like always, we’ll have our guaranteed [Medicare] benefits.”
The quibble, according to Factheck, is that, “the new law is guaranteed to result in benefit cuts for one class of Medicare beneficiaries — those in private Medicare Advantage plans.”
And that’s true. These private plans bundle guaranteed Medicare benefits along with other services -- everything from dental coverage to gym memberships.
Factcheck points to Griffith's use of the word “guaranteed,” calling it a “weasel word -- a qualifier that sucks the meaning out of a phrase in the way that weasels supposedly suck the contents out of an egg.”
