Obama Goes After Trump at Dinner
The president mocked, and perhaps elevated, Donald Trump, and even critics from the left, at the correspondent's dinner Saturday night.
"No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than 'the Donald,'" Obama said, referring to Trump's claims the same day that he was responsible for solving the issue.
For Trump's decision to fire actor Busey instead of rock singer Meat Loaf from his TV show earlier this month, Obama quipped: "These are the types of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir.
I’ve even let down my core constituency: movie stars. Matt Damon, I love Matt Damon, but the other day he said that he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I’ve seen the Adjustment Bureau, so, right back at you, buddy.
Elevating Trump is said to be the president's goal, with an eye toward making Donald the face of the GOP. It could work out another way, creating a big hole of normalcy for the pack of traditional politicians to run through.
