Miscalculating, Liberally

Liberals are doing their best to build Glenn Beck into a Superstar, including their heavy promotion of this morning's rally at the Lincoln Memorial. In thinking that Beck is a force they can control, they have made a major miscalculation.

"We have had moments of brilliance and moments of darkness. But this country has spent far too long worried about scars and thinking about the scars and concentrating on the scars."

"Today, we are going to concentrate on the good things in America, the things that we have accomplished - and the things that we can do tomorrow. The story of America is the story of humankind."

The left likes to pump up their base by inventing phony storylines and phony demons. But Beck has a message that America is starved for, and they're making a mistake when they deliberately build him up. A much larger force than the Democratic base is being energized.

Saturday's event comes on the heels of a primary election season that has emboldened tea party activists. In Palin's home state of Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a member of the GOP leadership, is trailing in a primary behind a political neophyte whose underdog campaign was propelled by Palin and tea party groups. After Tuesday's primary, Gulf War veteran and lawyer Joe Miller leads, although no winner has been declared as vote-counting continues.

Beck explained his mission in remarks to a Tea Party gathering Friday Night.

He told the crowd that he had begun planning his march on Washington a year ago thinking “it was supposed to be political.”

“And then I kind of feel like God dropped a giant sandbag on my head,” he said.

“My role, as I see it, is to wake America up to the backsliding of principles and values and most of all of God,” he said. “We are a country of God. As I look at the problems in our country quite honestly I think the hot breath of destruction is breathing on our necks and to fix it politically is a figure that I don’t see anywhere.”

The answer to fundamental change is restoration.

As of this writing, "Paris Hilton Arrested" and "Restoring Honor" are dual Twitter Trends, with "Paris Hilton Arrested" first and "Restoring Honor" right after it. This is in the wake of Hilton's arrest for alleged possession of cocaine in Las Vegas.

My money's on Beck.
