Michelle Obama: Frustration and Disappointment
Theory: Politicians are like Hollywood actors. Their job is to deliver lines in a compelling manner, making the listener feel that they're engaged in a one on one conversation. Michelle is top notch at this. But is she really this person who was raised with love for everyone in the village...
We learned about gratitude and humility... we were taught to value everyone's contribution and treat everyone with respect...
Or is she the woman who, four years ago, before she'd been reined in by campaign management, spoke with hostility toward the country.
And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change
Notice the less polished delivery, more real and natural. Notice the fatigue. Talking about what are, presumably, her true feelings - desperation and frustration with American life. Compare that to the polish of last night.
And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment.
Which speech was from the heart and which was crafted by a team of professional speechwriters? I'm not being critical of her for being good at the craft - I'm just using her to make the argument that we shouldn't take the things they say at face value.
