Low Point

Some people think Harry Reid is incapable of being on the right side on an issue. Not true! Hear what he has to say about the stupidity of giving citizenship to babies born on U.S. soil to people in the country illegally.

"If making it easy to be an illegal alien wasn't enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that. Right? Guess again! If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with US citizenship."

Ya, you're right, that was a long time ago - 1993. Back then, Reid also introduced legislation that would have toughened border security.

Mr. Reid said on the Senate floor in April 2006 that both his wife and attendees at a Las Vegas town hall expressed their disappointment with him after he introduced a measure that concentrated on securing the border between Mexico and the United States.

“That is a low point of my legislative career,” he said during a Senate debate on immigration legislation.

Why would doing the plainly correct thing have been a low point? Was that before liberals realized that illegal immigration was good politics, or did Harry Reid not understand yet that his job, as a Democrat, wasn't to do what's best for the country?
