Legacy

A good chunk of the contempt for the presidency of George W. Bush is based on an endless liberal media lament over certain actions that, we were told, were destroying America as we know it. Barack channeled many of these complaints during the campaign, but that was a long time ago. Now that he is abandoning his once strong stands on those left-urgent issues, what will liberals do? Are they going to hit the streets in protest because closing Gitmo, for example, is no longer an urgent matter?
PRESIDENT-ELECT Barack Obama has softened his pledge to close the controversial US prison at Guantanamo Bay within the first 100 days of his administration, saying it is proving a more complex task than he had thought it was.
Many Obama voters have told me that the speedy withdrawal of troops was job one, as far as they were concerned. But there are no indications that Barack is eager to rush the troops out of Iraq.
On March 19, many anti-war groups will assemble a tumultuous crowd at the post-Bush Pentagon. They'll scream for the immediate withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan and Iraq while jumping up and down in opposition to the military industrial complex.
Obama already broke his commitment on FISA...
In July, George W. Bush signed into law the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, which gives the NSA even more power to look for patterns that suggest terrorism links in Americans' telephone and Internet communications.
Will Barack rescind the Bush tax cuts, go for amnesty for illegals, or pursue any of a host of issues that were used to portray Bush as the anti-Christ for his failure to do what the liberal media wanted?
....Obama advisers are now signaling, says the New York Times, "that they may put off renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement, overhauling immigration laws, restricting carbon emissions, raising taxes on the wealthy and allowing gay men and lesbians to serve openly in the military."
If those things that were used to portray W. as a disastrous President are not important to Barack anymore, than we have to wonder if they ever were. Perhaps they were just tricks used to grab the liberal tiger by the tail - a political manipulation. Now that's 'Change You Can Believe In.'
