Gittin' Out

Gittin' out a Gitmo was one of the first promises President Obama made upon taking office, and like his promise to get out of Iraq in 16 months, there was no reason to believe that he would be irresponsible enough to mean what he was saying.
According to the dispatch by White House correspondent Jennifer Loven, “Senior administration officials told The Associated Press that difficulties in completing the lengthy review of detainee files and resolving thorny legal and logistical questions mean the president's self-imposed January deadline may slip.
It wasn't a real deadline, you see - just a self-imposed one. Come to think of it, the promise to get out of Iraq in 16 months was self-imposed, and the commitment not to reauthorize FISA was self-imposed, just as the essential nature of the public option was.... well - you get the idea.
Obama remains as committed to closing the facility as he was when, as one of his first acts in office, he pledged to shut it down, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to more freely discuss the sensitive issue.”
They want us to get used to the idea that Gitmo will remain open for some years to come, as they have always planned.
