Freedom of Pandering
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is getting much praise for his manipulative remarks in favor of allowing the Mosque to be built next to Ground Zero.
"Let us not forget that Muslims were among those murdered on 9/11 and that our Muslim neighbors grieved with us as New Yorkers and as Americans."
Isn't this proof that Muslims too need to be protected from radical islam, which funds and uses mosques in places like London to penetrate the free world? How does it change the reality that putting a Mosque there is an offense to those who were impacted directly by the attacks of 9/11?
"We would betray our values - and play into our enemies' hands - if we were to treat Muslims differently than anyone else."
Nonsense - safety is an important value, being rational in our own defense is not a violation of any value. And being sensitive to the insult that this extends to the victims is usually one of the great values extoled by liberals like Bloomberg - what happened?
"In fact, to cave to popular sentiment would be to hand a victory to the terrorists - and we should not stand for that."
This would only be true if popular sentiment was not based in reality, which it is. Would Bloomberg say the same thing to Jews unhappy with a convent next door to a concentration camp?
