The Dingell Knows

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of liberals? Only the Dingell Knows.

Congressman Dingell was talking to Paul W. Smith on WJR in Detroit.
"There are mistakes here as there are with all legislation," he told host Paul W. Smith. "But remember, the same charges were made by the same people about social Security and Medicare, and those have worked out to be two of the great and most popular social programs in the history of the country or anywhere else."
I wonder if The Dingells could clear something up for me. President Obama said the reason we needed this legislation was because it was going to save us from national economic catastrophe - bankruptcy, he said - that would be caused by the unaffordable Medicare and Medicaid programs. So why exactly should we be excited about a new program of similar magnitude?
Dingell (D-Dearborn) presided over the passage of Medicare in 1965 and lent the gavel he used then to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who pounded it Sunday to mark Democrat's victory in the hard-fought battle over the contentious legislation.
Democrats are always amazed that people are happy you give them things and the costs are hidden. In Massachusetts, they're in awe that they were able to sign up 7% of the population to subsidized health care when it became mandatory. People particularly like entitlement programs when they're not aware that they have us on the brink of bankruptcy.
