Deval Sprinkles Magic Dust on MTP

Since the Patriots are in the Super Bowl, NBC invited New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick on to Meet the Press to talk politics. The mayor wants to end the Bush tax cuts for everyone.

...nobody's really talking about how they are gonna close an eight trillion dollar deficit over the next ten years. Where is the revenue going to come from... and when you cut, what things are you going to cut?

...we should all pony up and help close the deficit and then adopt the Simpson Bowles plan...

Deval said he and the president agreed with Bloomberg on a balanced approach to deficit reduction...

I want to align myself with the comments that Mayor Bloomberg made... there is a way if we all act as if we are in this together... and the president aligns himself with those same ideas... there has to be a balanced approach.

As usual, Deval was being cute (ie, he was lying) when he said that he and Obama are on the same page with Bloomberg. The mayor was specifically arguing that taxes must be raised on the middle class - that everyone must have skin in the game, which runs counter to the divide and conquer strategy being employed by the White House.

But we have to invest in those things that we know grow the economy and make for a better economy, in education... biotech... infrastructure...

In other words, Deval wants to do what all Democrats want to do - increase spending, and raise taxes to do it. Deval's game is to make you feel like he's saying something that you want to hear while he's actually talking nonsense... just spreading magic fairy dust.
