ABC Gets Stupid on Arizona's Immigration Law
This is what's passing for journalism these days.
In our first scenario, the security guard approaches the actor playing the Latino customer moments after he enters the restaurant. "You got any ID on you? Documentation? Papers?" he asks. "Are you visiting? Do you understand a little English?" What our actor playing the security guard was doing -- racial profiling -- was exactly what some argue would happen under the new immigration law.
The experiment seems not designed to shed any insight into Arizona's immigration law, since the security guard hired by ABC isn't acting the way police would act under the law - he's simply acting like a bigot to another actor in an exercise which can only be upsetting to observe. Nothing accomplished - except media bias.
