Inaugural Boston College strong scholarship award

Designed to celebrate others who have overcome a disability

The first Boston College Strong scholarship is being awarded Monday. Jack Manning of Norfolk, Massachusetts, will receive the award created by Boston Marathon bombing survivors Patrick Downes and Jessica Kensy. Downes. The newlyweds each lost a leg in the 2013 attacks. Downes is an alumnus of Boston College.

Manning lost a leg to cancer as a child, and went on to play football and baseball in high school. He is also a mentor to other child cancer patients. He is currently a sophomore at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.
