House Speaker against hand-held device ban

Massachusetts the only New England state without the ban

November 23, 2017 - 7:10 am

Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo is expressing concerns about a possible ban on the use of hand-held electronic devices while driving.  Governor Charlie Baker announced support for a complete ban on the use of hand-held phones and other devices while driving this week. However, DeLeo is concerned that such a law may lead to more minorities being targeted by police for traffic stops. Massachusetts has banned texting behind the wheel but is the only state in New England without a full ban on hand-held electronics while driving
