Drug deaths are down in Massachusetts

New report shows progress in fight against opioids

A new report shows Massachusetts is making progress in the opioid fight. The state has seen a 10 percent drop in opioid-related deaths in the first nine months of the year, compared to the same period last year. The state has seen 1,400 opioid-related deaths between January and September of this year.Fentanyl remains a top concern; it led to eight of ten OD deaths this year.

The 2017 Third Quarterly Report on Opioid Epidemic is released by the Department of Public Health.

Governor Charlie Baker is expected to outline a plan to fight the epidemic through legislation and administrative actions on Tuesday.
