Charges have been upgraded for the 18-year-old driver accused of causing a crash that killed a Massachusetts police officer. Michael Ricci of Burlington is now facing negligent homicide charges in connection with last weekend’s crash in New Hampshire.
The court papers claim Riccio was part of a group headed to the New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire. The group missed the exit and pulled off the road to discuss the directions. Ricco offered to lead the group and then used the crossover to make a U-turn. Riccio drove head-on into oncoming traffic on Interstate 95 in New Hampshire. He reportedly struck a motorcycle driven by off-duty Somerville police officer Louis Remigio. The officer later died from the injuries.

Riccio was initially charged with reckless conduct and second-degree assault and posted bail. He is due back in court Friday to face the upgraded charges.
