Massachusetts has become the first state in the nation to ban bump stocks in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting. The bill was signed by Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, she is acting Governor while Charlie Baker is on vacation in California. The Governor had previously indicated his support of the ban.

The ban was included in a budget bill approved by lawmakers and prevents owning, selling and buying bump stocks in Massachusetts.

The Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, used a bump stock when he opened fire on a country music festival Oct. 1 killing 58 and wounding hundreds. The bump stocks allow semi-automatic weapons to act as automatic weapons increasing the rate of fire.
