The city of Boston recently paid close to $1 million in fines to the Internal Revenue Service following an audit. Many of the fines a result of mismanagement of student activity accounts in the school system.

Violations include paying staff off the books from the accounts and failing to deduct Medicare withholding taxes for many employees.  Mayor Marty Walsh says efforts are being made to correct the issues, many of which have been going on for decades.
